Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui potensi biomassa Spirulina fusiformis dalam mengadsorpsi logam berat Cr(VI). Tahapan penelitian yang dilakukan terdiri atas penyiapan biomassa Spirulina fusiformis; penentuan pengaruh parameter biosorpsi yang meliputi pH (1-4), waktu kontak (0-450 menit), dan suhu (15-45C); penentuan isoterm adsorpsi dan penentuan gugus fungsi yang berperan dalam pengikatan Cr(VI) melalui karakterisasi FTIR biomassa sebelum dan setelah dikontakkan dengan Cr(VI). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kemampuan biosorpsi Cr(VI) biomassa Spirulina fusiformis menurun seiring meningkatnya pH larutan logam dari 1 ke 4. Sementara itu, biosorpsi Cr(VI) meningkat seiring bertambahnya suhu dari 15 ke 45C dan seiring meningkatnya waktu kontak. Hasil penentuan model isoterm adsorpsi menunjukkan bahwa pola biosorpsi Cr(VI) pada biomassa Spirulina fusiformis mengikuti model isoterm adsorpsi Freundlich. Hasil analisis spektroskopi FTIR menunjukkan bahwa gugus amina dari biomassa berperan utama dalam pengikatan Cr(VI). Berdasarkan hasil penelitian yang diperoleh, dapat disimpulkan bahwa biomassa Spirulina fusiformis memiliki potensi untuk dijadikan biosorben dalam mengolah limbah yang mengandung logam Cr(VI) dengan kapasitas biosorpsi 26,38 mg/g. ;---This research aims to determine potential of Spirulina fusiformis biomass to absorbs Cr(VI) heavy metal. This study involved in the preparation of Spirulina fusiformis biomass; evaluation of biomass biosorption parameters on Cr(VI) which are including the pH (1-4), the contact time (0-450 min), and the temperature (15-45C); evaluation the isothermal adsorption of Cr(VI); and determination functional groups involved in the binding of Cr(VI) through the characterization of Spirulina fusiformis biomass before and after contacted with Cr(VI) by FTIR spectrophotometer analysis. The result shows that the biosorption capability of Spirulina fusiformis biomass decreased with the increasing of solution pH level from 1 to 4. On the contratcy, the biomass biosorption of Cr(VI) icreased as the increasing of the temperature and time of contact time. The results of determination adsorption isotherm models show that the pattern of Cr(VI) biosorption on biomass Spirulina fusiformis fit to the Freundlich adsorption isotherm models. According to FTIR analysis, it was observed that the amine group play a major rule in the interaction of biomass and Cr(VI). Based on the research, it can be concluded that biomass of Spirulina fusiformis is potential to be used as a processing agent of chromium contaminated water with biosorption capability reached to 26,38 mg/g.
