Abstract
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meneliti peranan fermentor TS dalam produksi bioetanol dengan bahan baku dari gula aren. Fermentor TS adalah suatu inokulum berupa granula yang mengandung bakteri asam laktat dan yeast. Yeast dalam fermentor TS ini berperan dalam mengubah substrat gula menjadi etanol dan CO2. Fermentor ini bersifat reusable, artinya fermentor ini dapat digunakan berulang kali, dan dapat berkembang biak terus-menerus. Metode penelitian yang dilakukan meliputi tahap optimasi kondisi fermentasi, tahap produksi bioetanol pada kondisi optimum, dan tahap purifikasi bioetanol hasil produksi. Parameter yang diamati pada tahap optimasi kondisi fermentasi diantaranya yaitu waktu fermentasi, jumlah fermentor, dan pH. Kadar etanol hasil fermentasi yang diikuti dengan proses destilasi pada setiap optimasi dianalisis menggunakan GC-MS, dan kadar etanol tertinggi ditentukan sebagai kondisi optimum fermentasi. Kemudian kondisi optimum tersebut digunakan untuk fermentasi dalam produksi bioetanol yang selanjutnya diikuti dengan proses destilasi. Pada tahap purifikasi, dilakukan destilasi kembali terhadap bioetanol hasil produksi diikuti dengan adsorpsi menggunakan silika gel. Dari hasil optimasi, diperoleh kondisi optimum fermentasi diantaranya yaitu waktu optimum 3 hari, jumlah fermentor optimum dengan rasio 2:1 antara bahan baku dengan fermentor, dan pH optimum yaitu 4,5. Hasil fermentasi pada kondisi optimum tersebut didestilasi sehingga diperoleh bioetanol dengan randemen sebanyak 11,04 % b/b. Bioetanol hasil destilasi dianalisis dengan GC-MS sehingga diketahui bahwa kadar bioetanol yang diperoleh sebesar 88,69 %. Kemudian setelah dipurifikasi lebih lanjut dan dianalisis menggunakan GC-MS, hasilnya bioetanol yang diperoleh memiliki kadar 99,13 %. Kata kunci: bioetanol, fermentor TS, gula aren This study aims to investigate the role of fermentor TS in bioethanol production using palm sugar as raw material. Fermentor TS is kind of inoculum in the form of granules containing lactic acid bacteria and yeasts. The yeast has a role in converting sugar into ethanol and CO2. This fermenter is reusable, can be used repeatedly. The yeast has a role in converting sugar into ethanol and CO2, so it’s potential as fermenter of bioethanol production. This fermenter is reusable, meaning that the fermenter can be used repeatedly, and can breed continuously. The research method includes the step optimization of fermentation conditions, stage of bioethanol production in optimum condition, and the stage of purification the bioethanol from production stage.The parameters observed at the stage of optimization of fermentation conditions among which the fermentation time, the amount of fermenters, and pH. Ethanol fermented that followed by distillation process at each optimization analyzed using GC-MS, and the highest ethanol content is determined as the optimum fermentation conditions. Then the optimum conditions are used for fermentation in the production of bioethanol which is followed by a process of distillation. At the purification stage, bioethanol from the production stage was distilled again followed by adsorption using silica gel. From the results of the optimization, obtained optimum fermentation conditions among which the optimum time of 3 days, the optimum amount of fermenter with a ratio of 2: 1 between the raw material with fermenters, and the optimum pH of 4,5. Fermented at the optimum condition that is distilled obtaining bioethanol with yield as much as 11.04 % w/w. Bioethanol from distillation were analyzed by GC-MS so it is known that the bioethanol has concentration of 88.69%. Then after further purified and analyzed using GC-MS , the result shows that the bioethanol has concentration of 99.13 % . Keywords: bioethanol, fermentor TS, palm sugar.
