Abstract

Masalah penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi masih banyaknya pengangguran siswa lulusan Sekolah Menengah Kejuruan di Thailand. Hal ini menemukan masih rendahnya kompetensi sosial siswa SMK, sedangkan pembelajaran IPS sudah menanamkan pembelajaran yang bertujuan mengembangkan kompetensi sosial. Dengan masalah itu peneliti ingin melihatkan apakah pembelajaran IPS ada pengaruh terhadap kompetensi sosial siswa. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan pengaruh pembelajaran IPS terhadap kompetensis sosial siswa SMK di Phuket, Thailand yang meliputi pengaruh pembelajaran IPS terhadap kemampuan kerja sama siswa, pengaruh pembelajaran IPS terhadap kemampuan ketegasan diri siswa, pengaruh pembelajaran IPS terhadap kemampuan berempati siswa, pengaruh pembelajaran IPS terhadap kemampuan berkomunikasi siswa dan pengaruh pembelajaran IPS terhadap kompetensi sosial siswa. Penelitian ini merupakan jenis penelitian studi korelasional untuk melihat pengaruh pembelajaran IPS terhadap kompetensi sosial siswa Sekolah Menengah Kejuruan di Phuket, Thailand. Penelitian ini dilakukan pada Phuket Vocational Collage, Phuket Technology School dan Phuket Polytechnic Collage. Dengan subjek penelitian sebanyak 111 siswa. Instrument yang digunakan yaitu angket dan dianalais data dengan menggunakan program statistik SPSS for Windows versi 16. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ada pengaruh pembelajaran IPS terhadap kompetensi sosial siswa dengan hasil analisis data diperoleh pengaruh signifikan pembelajaran IPS terhadap kompetensi sosial siswa sebesar 22,1%, terhadap kemampuan kerja sama siswa sebesar 18,4%, terhadap kemampuan ketegasan diri sebesar 12,2%, terhadap kemampuan berempati siswa sebesar 16,3% dan terhadap kemampuan berkomunikasis siswa sebesar 13,9%. Rekomendasi dalam pembelajaran IPS hendaknya guru berbasis selalu menggunakan model, pendekatan, strategi, dan metode pembelajaran kontekstual yang relevan kompetensi sosial untuk mengembangkan secara optimal. Kata kunci: Pembelajaran IPS, Kompetensi Sosial, Sekolah Menengah Kejuruan The research was prompted by a great number of unemployment among graduates of vocational high schools in Thailand. This was caused by the low social competence of vocational high school students; meanwhile, the teaching and learning of social science education is actually aimed to develop social competence. Departing from this issue, the researcher would like to see whether the teaching and learning of social science education has impacts on students’ social competence. Thus, the research aimed to describe the impacts of social science education teaching and learning on vocational high school students’ social competence in Phuket, Thailand, which includes the impact of social science education teaching and learning on students’ ability to cooperate, the impact of social science education teaching and learning on students’ self-assertiveness, the impact of social science education teaching and learning on students’ ability to empathize, the impact of social science education teaching and learning on students’ ability to communicate, and the impact of social science education teaching and learning on students’ social competence. The research is categorized into correlational study to see the impacts of social science teaching and learning on vocational high school students’ social competence in Phuket, Thailand. It was conducted in Phuket Vocational College, Phuket Technology School, and Phuket Polytechnic College. There were 111 students as the subjects, and the instruments used were questionnaires. Data were analyzed using SPSS for Windows version 16. The outcomes of the research have shown that social science education teaching and learning had impacts on students’ social competence, with results of data analysis demonstrating that there was a significant impact of social science education teaching and learning on students’ social competence, with the value of 22.1%. The impacts were similarly significant on students’ ability to cooperate, with a value of 18.4%, on students’ self-assertiveness as much as 12.2%, on students’ ability to empathize as much as 16.3%, and on students’ communicative ability as much as 13.9%. It is, therefore, recommended that in the teaching and learning of social science education, teachers always use contextual models, approaches, strategies and methods of teaching and learning which are relevant to the optimal development of social competence.
