Abstract

Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh perkembangan internet yang sangat pesat saat ini, sehingga sudah sebagian besar masayarakat dari berbagai kalangan menggunakan internet sebagai sumber informasi mereka baik itu untuk mengakses informasi umum maupun untuk mengakses informasi guna memenuhi tuntutan akademis. Pokok masalah yang akan dikaji dalam penelitian ini adalah dampak internet terhadap penggunaan koleksi tercetak di perpustakaan. Penelitian ini terdiri dari dua variabel yaitu internet dan penggunaan koleksi tercetak. Variabel internet diukur oleh empat indikator, yaitu tujuan penggunaan internet, durasi / frekuensi penggunaan internet, lokasi penggunaan internet dan aktivitas online. Sedangkan untuk variabel penggunaan internet diukur oleh enam indikator, yaitu kebutuhan informasi, tujuan penggunaan koleksi, minat penggunaan koleksi, kelengkapan koleksi, keterampilan pustakawan dan fasilitas penelusuran informasi yang terdapat di perpustakaan. Populasi pada penelitian ini adalah semua mahasiswa Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) serta masyarakat umum yang terdaftar sebagai anggota perpustakaan , dengan sampel sebanyak 100 orang. Penentuan sampel pada penelitian ini dengan teknik probability sampling menggunakan simple random sampling, dengan rumus Yamane. Metode penelitian menggunakan metode deskriptif dengan pendekatan kuantitatif. Teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan Skala Likert dalam 5 kategori dengan analisis korelasi. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian yang telah dilakukan, ditemukan bahwa sebagian besar pemustaka lebih suka menggunakan internet dibandingkan dengan koleksi tercetak sebagai sumber informasi ilmiah. ---------- This research is motivated by the very rapid development of the internet at the moment, so it's been mostly the community from all walks of life use the internet as their source of information both to access public information and to access the information in order to meet the demands of academic. The principal issues to be studied in this research is the influence of the Internet on the use of printed collections at the library. This study consists of two variables: the Internet and the use of printed collections. Internet variables measured by four indicators, namely the intended use of the internet, duration / frequency of internet usage, internet usage and location for online activities. As for the variable Internet usage is measured by six indicators, namely the information needs, motives use of the collection, the desirability of using a collection, the completeness of the collection, librarian skills, and searching facilities that avaliable in the library. The population in this study were all students of Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) and the general public who are registered as members of the library, with a sample of 100 people. This research is using descriptive method with quantitative approach. Data collection techniques using Likert Scale in five categories with correlation analysis. Result of this research are found that most user prefer to use the internet as compared to the printed collection as a source of scientific information.
