Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan menguji efektivitas Konseling Rasional Emotif Perilaku untuk meningkatkan self-esteem siswa. Pendekatan yang digunakan adalah pendekatan kuantitatif. Metode yang digunakan yaitu kuasi eksperimen dengan desain penelitian subjek tunggal tipe A-B. Teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan angket self-esteem dengan menggunakan skala Guttman. Populasi penelitian adalah siswa kelas VIII SMP Negeri 48 Surabaya tahun ajaran 2014/2015 dengan jumlah 287 siswa dan yang dijadikan sampel sebanyak empat siswa yang memiliki skor self-esteem rendah dengan teknik random sampling. Penelitian dilaksanakan dengan melakukan studi pendahuluan, pengukuran kondisi baseline selama tiga minggu (seminggu sekali), pemberian intervensi Konseling Rasional Emotif Perilaku yang dilakukan selama lima sesi dalam 5 minggu dan dilanjutkan dengan analisis data. Hasil uji efektivitas menunjukkan bahwa Konseling Rasional Emotif Perilaku secara empiris efektif untuk meningkatkan self-esteem siswa. Tiga siswa secara empiris terbukti efektif dalam meningkatkan empat aspek self-esteem yakni kekuasaan (power), keberartian (significance), kebajikan (virtue) dan kompetensi (competence), namun satu siswa secara empiris terbukti tidak efektif dalam meningkatkan aspek kompetensi.---------- Ayong Lianawati. The research aims to examine the effectiveness of Rational Emotive Behavior Counseling to improve students’ self-esteem. It used quantitative approach, employing a quasi-experimental method with A-B single subject research design. The data was collected by self-esteem questionnaires using Guttman scale. The research population was consisted of a total of 287 eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 48 Surabaya academic year 2014/2015. The sample were with four students with low self-esteem detected by random sampling technique. The research was begun with a preliminary study, continued with measurement of baseline condition for three weeks (once a week), intervention of Rational Emotive Behavior Counseling given for five sessions in five weeks, and followed by data analysis. The results showed that Rational Emotive Behavior Counseling was empirically effective to improve the self-esteem of students. It is particularly proven to be empirically effective in improve four aspects of self-esteem in three students, namely power, significance, virtue, and competence; however, it is not empirically effective in improve the competence aspect of one student’s self-esteem.
