Abstract

Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh penting dan rendahnya kemampuan penalaran dan kemampuan representasi matematis serta motivasi berprestasi siswa. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menelaah peningkatan kemampuan penalaran, kemampuan representasi matematis dan motivasi berprestasi siswa. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kuasi eksperimen dengan desain nonequivalent control group design. Populasi pada penelitian ini adalah seluruh kelas VIII pada salah satu SMP Negeri di Jakarta Barat. Sampel terdiri dari dua kelas yaitu kelas VIII-D dan VIII-F yang dipilih secara purposive sampling. Instrumen yang digunakan berupa tes kemampuan penalaran dan representasi matematis, angket motivasi berprestasi siswa, dan lembar observasi. Analisis data menggunakan uji-t (Independent Sample T-Test) dan Mann Whitney. Berdasarkan analisis data, ditemukan bahwa (1) Kemampuan penalaran, kemampuan representasi matematis serta motivasi berprestasi siswa yang memperoleh pembelajaran discovery dengan pendekatan saintifik lebih baik daripada siswa yang memperoleh pembelajaran biasa, (2) Peningkatan kemampuan penalaran, kemampuan representasi matematis serta motivasi berprestasi siswa yang memperoleh pembelajaran discovery dengan pendekatan saintifik lebih baik daripada siswa yang memperoleh pembelajaran biasa.----------This research is motivated by the importance and low of mathematical reasoning, representation ability, and achievement motivation. The aims of this research is to analyze students enhancement of mathematical reasoning, representation ability and achievement motivation of students. This research was a quasi experimental with nonequivalent control group design. The population of students at eighth grade in one of Junior High School West Jakarta. The sample consisted of two classes: VIII-D and VIII-F, selected by purposive sampling. The instruments used test of mathematical reasoning, representation ability, and achievement motivation questionnaire, and observation sheet. Data analysis used t-test (independent sample T-Test) and Mann Whitney test. The result showed that: (1) Mathematical reasoning, representation ability and achievement motivation of students who received the discovery learning by using scientific approach is better than students who received conventional learning, (2) The enhancement of mathematical reasoning, representation ability and achievement motivation of students who received the discovery learning with scientific approach was better than students who received conventional learning.
