Abstract

Anak dengan cerebral visual impairment merupakan salah satu dari sekian banyak karakteristik anak berkebutuhan khusus. Cerebral visual impairment (CVI) merupakan kondisi dimana seseorang mengalami cerebral palsy yang disertai dengan visual impairment. Kondisi disabilitas yang dialami seseorang seringkali disertai dengan masalah-masalah perkembangan lainnya. Masalah perkembangan yang dialami oleh salah seorang anak CVI (berinisial IC) adalah ketertinggalan dalam aspek kognitif. IC merupakan anak yang mengalami cerebral visual impairment sejak lahir. Ketertinggalan perkembangan kognitif ini disebabkan oleh lingkungan terutama keluarga yang kurang memahami kondisi perkembangan anaknya, serta adanya kecenderungan keluarga untuk mengatasi hambatan-hambatan yang terlihat secara fisik semata. Berdasarkan kondisi ini maka dibutuhkan suatu alternatif kegiatan yang dapat mengoptimalkan perkembangan kognitif anak cerebral visual impairment. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk memberikan alternatif program intervensi dini yang dapat mengoptimalkan perkembangan kognitif anak cerebral visual impairment. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif, hasil yang didapatkan (1) Anak dengan kondisi disabilitas ganda seperti cerebral visual impairment memiliki potensi perkembangan kognitif yang dapat dioptimalkan dengan bantuan dari lingkungannya terutama keluarga, (2) Pentingnya pemahaman keluarga mengenai kondisi perkembangan anak, untuk memaksimalkan peranan dan fungsi keluarga untuk optimalisasi perkembangan kognitif anak, (3) Program intervensi dini dapat menjadi alternatif yang membantu keluarga untuk memaksimalkan segala aktivitas rutin harian, guna mengoptimalkan perkembangan kognitif anak cerebral visual impairment. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, disarankan kepada setiap pihak dan profesional yang berkepentingan terhadap tumbuh kembang khususnya perkembangan kognitif anak CVI agar mempertimbangkan aktivitas sehari-hari dalam melakukan intervensi dini, selain itu berbagai pihak juga dapat mengembangkan program intervensi dini ini hingga teruji efektifitasnya pada subjek yang sama atau dikembangkan dan disesuaikan dengan subjek yang memiliki masalah serupa. Cerebral Visual Impairment (CVI) is a condition when someone experiences Cerebral Palsy with Visual Impairment. The disability condition which is experienced by someone is often completed with the developmental problem. The developmental problem which is experienced by one of CVI children (with the initial IC) is the backwardness in the cognitive aspect. IC is someone who has experienced cerebral visual impairment since the early stage. The backwardness of this cognitive development is caused by the environment, especially the family who does not have sufficient understanding of the children’s condition. Additionally, this problem is also caused by a tendency of a family to overcome some barriers which are physically seen. In line with this notion, it is necessary to have an alternative activity aiming to optimalize the cognitive development of the sufferer of cerebral visual impairment. This study is aimed at giving an alternative program of the early intervention to optimalize the cognitive development of the sufferer of cerebral visual impairment. The qualitative research design was employed showing that (1) The child who experiences multiple dissability like cerebral visual impairment has the cognitive developmental potency optimalized by some aids from the environment, especially from the family, (2) The importance of the family’s understanding about the condition of the child’s development aims to maximize the role and the function of a family in optimalizing the the cognitive development of the child. (3) The early intervention program can be an alternative helping the family maximaze all activities in the daily routine. Additionally, it functions to optimalize the cognitive development of the child with cerebral visual impairment. According to the result of this study, it is suggested to all parties and the professional ones who are concerned with the growth, especially the cognitive development of the child of CVI, to consider the daily activities in undertaking this early intervention. In addition, some parties also have an opportunity to develop the early intervention program; therefore, this program is examined to be applied to the same subject or developed and adopted to other subjects who have the similar problem.
