Abstract

Karakter yang berkualitas harus distimulasi dan dibina sejak usia dini. Karena usia dini merupakan masa yang baik bagi pembentukan karakter bila gagal menanamkan karakter sejak dini maka akan mempengaruhi kepribadian selanjutnya. Nilai karakter yang penting dikembangkan terhadap anak yaitu nilai rasa hormat dan tanggungjawab. Dua nilai karakter ini mempunyai peranan yang sangat penting karena nilai rasa hormat dan tanggungjawab dapat mewakili dan menumbuhkan nilai-nilai karakter lainnya yang berlaku secara universal. Banyak faktor yang mempengaruhi pengembangan karakter anak, diantaranya metode mengajar. Dalam hal ini peneliti mencoba meyodorkan metode proyek dan metode discovery untuk pengembangkan karakter anak. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mendeskripsikan tentang 1) Kondisi awal karakter rasa hormat dan tanggungjawab anak. 2) Efektifitas metode proyek dalam mengembangkan karakter anak. 3) Efektifitas metode discovery dalam mengembangkan karakter anak. 4) Perbedaan efektifitas metode proyek dan metode discovery terhadap pengembangan karakter anak. Penelitian ini dilakukan karena melihat fenomena dilapangan bahwa karakter anak saat ini sudah merosot. Sehingga peneliti melakukan penelitian mengenai karakter anak. Metode penelitian yang digunakan dengan metode kuasi eksperimen. Sampel penelitian yaitu TK Kemala Bhayangkari 22 sebagai kelompok eksperimen, dan TK Kartika XIX-24 sebagai kelompok control. Dengan subjek penelitian kelompok eksperimen 24 anak dan kelompok control 23 anak. Hasil penelitian nilai karakter rasa hormat pada metode proyek meningkat sebesar 26,17 dan tanggungjawab meningkat 24,08. sedangkan nilai rasa hormat pada metode discovery mencapai peningkatan 10,96 dan tanggungjawab meningkat 6,39. Dengan demikian dapat dilihat metode proyek lebih efektif dibandingkan metode discovery dalam peningkatan karakter anak. Character should be stimulated and developed since early childhood, for early childhood is the best age for character development. Failure to cultivate character since early age, Will affect children’s future personality. Among characters that are necessary to be developed in young children are respect and responsibility. These two characters play significant roles because both respect and responsibility can influence other values. There are many factors affecting children’s character development, one of which is teaching method. In this regard, the researcher attempted to propose project and discovery methods for children’s character development. The research aimed to describe: 1) The initial condition of the respect and responsibility character among children; 2) The effectiveness of project method in developing children’s character; 3) The effectiveness of discovery method in developing children’s character; and 4) The difference in the effectiveness between project and discovery method in developing children’s character. The research is opted by the phenomena in the field that showsa decline in children’s character. Hence, the researcher conducted research on children’s character. The method adopted was quasi-experimental. The sample consisted of students from TK (Kindergarten) KemalaBhayangkari 22 as the experimental group and TK Kartika XIX-24 as the control group. The experimental group comprised 24 research subjects and control class of 23 subject. The results showed that the mean for children’s respect and responsibility developed through project method were 26.17 and 24.08, respectively. Meanwhile, the mean for respect and responsibility developed through discovery method were 10.96 and 6.39, respectively. Hence, it can be seen that the project method was more effective compared to discovery method in developing children’s characters.
