Abstract

Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh adanya permasalahan yang peneliti temukan dalam proses pembelajaran IPS terkait dengan rendahnya kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa. Permasalahan yang diangkat pada penelitian ini mengenai peningkatan kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa melalui media karikatur dalam pembelajaran IPS. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeksripsikan bagaimana perencanaan, pelaksanaan, hasil, dan upaya untuk mengatasai kendala dalam meningkatkan kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa melalui media karikatur dalam pembelajaran IPS di kelas VII-A SMP Negeri 40 Bandung. Metode yang digunakan adalah Peneltian Tindakan Kelas dengan desain penelitian Kemmis dan Taggart. Sumber data penelitian ini adalah hasil peningkatan kemampuan bepikir kritis siswa melalui media karikatur dalam pembelajaran IPS. Indikator berpikir kritis dalam penelitian ini yaitu mempertanyakan, menjawab, kedalaman analisis, penyimpulan dan berinteraksi dengan orang lain. Hasil penelitian diketahui bahwa pada indikator kedalaman analisis dan berinteraksi dpengan orang lain meningkat dengan sangat baik pada setiap siklusnya. Hasil tersebut memperlihatkan bahwa siswa mampu menganalisis permasalahan sosial yang disajikan melalui media karikatur, kemudian siswa mampu menyampaikan presentasi lisan hasil analisis siswa terhadap karikatur. selain itu siswa telah mampu merumuskan pertanyaan, jawaban, serta penyimpulan dengan baik terhadap isi karikatur. Kesimpulan umum, bahwa penggunaan media karikatur dapat meningkatkan kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa dalam pembelajaran IPS di kelas VII-A. The background of this study is the problems that researcher has found in social studies process associated with the lack of students’ critical thinking skills. The focus of this study is the improvement of students’ critical thinking skill in social studies through the caricature media. This study aims to depict how the planning, implementation, results and efforts to overcome the obstacles in improving students’ critical thinking skills in social studies through the caricature media at class VII-A SMP Negeri 40 Bandung. The method used in this research was classroom action research design Kemmis and Taggart. The source of the data in this research is the results of the ability improvement of students’ critical thinking skill in social studies through caricature media. It is found in this research that the indicators of the critical thinking are the ability to asking, answering, analyze the depth of the analysis to make the conclusion and interact with other people. The result of this study showed that the ability to analyze the depth of analysis and interact with other people is improved in every cycle. From the result above, it is showed that students’ can analyze the social problem that is given through caricature media. Afterwards, students can deliver the oral presentation as the result of students’ analysis toward caricature. Besides, students are able to give question, answer, and conclusion of the caricature content appropriately. The general conclusion is that the use of caricature media can be taken as one of the ways of improving class VII-A students’ critical thinking ability in social studies.
