Abstract

Siswa mempunyai masalah dalam keterampilan berbicara dan berpikir kreatif. Berbicara dianggap sulit dalam kegiatan pembelajaran di dalam kelas. Untuk mengatasi hal tersebut peneliti melakukan penerapan debat inisiasi berorientasi karakter di kelas lima Sekolah Dasar. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendapatkan bukti nyata dan mendeskripsikan proses pembelajaran dengan menggunakan debat di dalam kelas sehingga adanya peningkatan hasil belajar dan respons siswa terhadap kegiatan pembelajaran. Metode penelitian ini adalah kuasi eksperimen. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di SDN 7 Hegarsari dan melibatkan 66 siswa yang terdiri atas 33 siswa kelas eksperimen dan 33 siswa kelas kontrol. Data hasil penelitian berupa skor pretes dan postes dianalisis menggunakan uji-t. Berdasarkan analisis data, diperoleh simpulan nilai rata-rata skor n-gain pada kelas eksperimen (0,50) tercatat lebih tinggi daripada nilai rata-rata skor n-gain pada kelas kontrol (0,35). Secara statistik perbedaan kedua skor tersebut signifikan, nilai probabilitas yang didapat lebih kecil daripada taraf sigifikansi yang ditetapkan (0,023 < 0,05). Siswa memberi respons positif terhadap proses pembelajaran dan dapat disimpulkan bahwa penerapan debat inisiasi berorientasi karakter efektif meningkatkan keterampilan berbicara dan berpikir kreatif siswa. Students have problems speaking skills and creative thinking. Speaking considered difficult in learning activities in the classroom. To overcome this problem researchers conduct application-oriented character initiation debate in grade five elementary schools. This study aimed to obtain concrete evidence and describe the process of learning by using debate in the classroom so that an increase in student learning outcomes and responses to learning activities. This research method is quasi-experimental. This research was conducted at SDN 7 Hegarsari and involves 66 students consisting of 33 students and 33 students experimental class control class. Research data in the form of pretest and posttest scores were analyzed using t-test. Based on data analysis, conclusions obtained by the average value of n-gain scores in the experimental class (0.50) is higher than the value of the average scores on the class n-gain control (0.35). Statistically significant difference between the two scores, the probability value obtained is smaller than the level specified sigifikansi (0.023 < 0.05). Students give a positive response to the learning process and it can be concluded that the application of effective character-oriented debate initiation improve speaking skills and creative thinking of students.
