Abstract
IPS di tingkat sekolah pada dasarnya bertujuan untuk mempersiapkan para siswa sebagai warga negara yang mempunyai pengetahuan (knowlodge), keterampilan (skill), sikap dan nilai (attitudes and values) yang dapat dijadikan sebagai kemampuan untuk memecahkan masalah pribadi atau masalah sosial dan kemampuan mengambil keputusan serta berpartisipasi dalam berbagai kegiatan kemasyarakatan agar menjadi warga negara yang baik. Melalui proses belajar mengajar diharapkan adanya hasil pendidikan yang berupa seperangkat pengetahuan yang harus dikuasai, sejumlah keterampilan yang dimiliki, dan serangkaian sikap yang terbentuk pada peserta didik pada akhir proses pendidikan, yaitu sikap kepedulian sosial. Masalah-masalah ekonomi, kesenjangan sosial, dan bencana yang terjadi di Indonesia patut memunculkan nilai karakter peduli sosial. Akan tetapi, disamping itu ada juga fenomena sosial yang justru menunjukkan rendahnya nilai-nilai kepedulian sosial dengan meningkatnya ketegangan dan permusuhan pelajar, bahkan berujung pada tawuran. Penelitian ini mencari dan menemukan kontribusi pembelajaran IPS di sekolah dalam menumbuhkan kepedulian sosial siswa SMA Negeri di Kota Sukabumi, sebagai salah satu upaya pembentukan karakter sosial dalam konteks toleransi, cinta damai, peduli lingkungan, empati, dan tanggung jawab. Tujuannya adalah agar siswa dapat meningkatan kepedulian sosial melalui pendalaman proses peningkatan kemampuan membaca dan memahami gejala sosial atau fenomena sosial yang terjadi pada masyarakat, membentuk warga negara yang baik dan mengembangkan kemampuan siswa menggunakan penalaran dalam mengambil keputusan setiap persoalan yang dihadapinya. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah kuantitatif dengan desain survey dan sampel dalam penelitian ini diambil secara penuh dari seluruh siswa SMA Negeri kelas XI Program IPS Tahun Ajaran 2014-2015 di Kota Sukabumi dengan jumlah 333 orang. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan adanya pengaruh signifikan pembelajaran IPS terhadap pembentukan sikap kepedulian sosial siswa, ada pengaruh signifikan pembelajaran IPS terhadap toleransi, ada pengaruh signifikan pembelajaran IPS terhadap cinta damai, ada pengaruh signifikan pembelajaran IPS terhadap peduli lingkungan, ada pengaruh signifikan pembelajaran IPS terhadap empati, dan ada pengaruh signifikan pembelajaran IPS terhadap tanggung jawab. Social Studies at the school level is basically aims to prepare students as citizens who have knowledge, skills, attitudes and values that can be used as the ability to solve their personal problems or social problems and the ability to make decisions as well as participating in various social activities in order to become good citizens. Through the learning process, students are expected to have the educational outcomes in the form of a set of essential knowledge that should be mastered, a number of skills possessed, and a set of attitudes that are formed in the learner at the end of the educational process, namely the attitude of social awareness. Economic problems, social inequality, and disasters that are occurred in Indonesia should raise the value of the social aware character. However, besides that there is also a social phenomenon that actually showed the low values of social aware by the increasing of students tension and hostility, which even ends with a brawl. This research was looked for and found the contribution of social studies learning in schools in growing social awareness in State high school students in Sukabumi, as one of the efforts to establish a social character in the context of tolerance, peace-loving, aware environment, empathy, and responsibility. The goal was for students to improve their social awareness through the deepening of the process of improving the ability in reading and understanding the social indication or social phenomena that occurred in the society, establishing good citizens and developing the students' ability to use their logical reasoning in making decisions in every issue that is faced. The method that used in this study was a quantitative with survey design and the sample in this study was fully taken from class XI students of State high school in IPS (Social Studies) Program in 2014-2015 Academic Year in Sukabumi with the numbers were 333 people. The results of this study showed a significant influence of social science learning on the formation of students’ social awareness attitude, there was a significant influence of social science learning on the tolerance, there was a significant influence on the peace-loving, there was a significant influence on the environment awareness, there was a significant influence on empathy, and there was also a significant influence on the responsibility.
