Abstract

Tanah lempung ekspansif merupakan jenis tanah yang tidak stabil karena sifat kembang dan susut yang tinggi. Karena sifat yang tidak stabil tersebut tanah lempung ekspansif dapat merusak bangunan diatasnya seperti rumah, gedung, atau jalan, sehingga dibutuhkan perbaikan tanah. Penelitian yang dilakukan untuk mengetahui pengaruh penambahan silica fume terhadap nilai kuat geser dan swelling tanah lempung ekspansif dengan presentase 1%, 2%, 5%, 10%, dan 20%. Jenis pengujian pada sampel tak terganggu berupa uji mineral, index properties, sedangkan engineering properties digunakan untuk mengetahui perubahan nilai kuat geser dan swelling pada tanah lempung ekspansif dengan tambahan silica fume. Hasil pengujian menunjukan adanya kandungan mineral Ca-Montmorinollite, dengan tanah berjenis CH (Clay High Plasticity) di area Jababeka. Hasil penelitian secara umum membuktikan bahwa silica fume dapat meningkatkan nilai kuat geser dan menurunkan swelling tanah lempung ekspansif. An expansive clay soil is unstable clay form, due to high shrinkage and swelling characteristic. This can lead failure of civil structure above an expansive clay soil, so soil treatment is required. This experiment is to carry out the effect addition silica fume in shear strength and swelling of expansive clay soils with 1%, 2%, 5%, 10%, and 20% percentage. Testing type on undisturbed samples is mineral test, index properties, while engineering properties is applied to find out changing of shear strength and swelling of expansive clay soils with addition of silica fume. All of testing that has been done proves show content of Ca-Montmorinollite on mineral test, and soils type is CH (Clay High Plasticity) in Jababeka Industrial area. After all the results concluded that silica fume in general can increase shear strength and decrease swelling of expansive clay soil.
