Abstract

Sebagai ilmu yang mempelajari ruang dan tempat, geografi dapat memanfatkan peta mental sebagai manifestasi pengalaman spasial peserta didik dalam rangka meningkatkan kebermaknaan pembelajaran geografi, termasuk pengembangan keterampilan geografisnya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi peta mental dan keterampilan geografis mahasiswa Departemen Pendidikan Geografi Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI), serta untuk menganalisis hubungan antara peta mental dengan keterampilan geografis tersebut. Penelitian dilaksanakan di kampus Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia. Metode yang digunakan adalah metode survey, data dikumpulkan melalui tes , studi dokumentasi dan studi pustaka. Populasi penelitian meliputi seluruh mahasiswa aktif Departemen Pendidikan Geografi UPI dengan jumlah sampel 100 orang yang ditentukan menggunakan teknik sampel acak berstrata. Analisis data menggunakan persentase dan korelasi product moment. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, jumlah mahasiswa Departemen Pendidikan Geografi yang memiliki peta mental dan keterampilan geografis yang baik tidak sampai setengahnya. Selain itu, hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa mahasiswa Departemen Pendidikan Geografi UPI memiliki peta mental dan keterampilan geografis yang cukup. Sedangkan kontribusi peta mental terhadap keterampilan geografis signifikan dengan tingkat hubungan yang kuat terutama pada aspek menanya pertanyaan geografis, mengumpulkan informasi geografis dan menjawab pertanyaan geografis. As the science of space that studies various things about space and place , geography can use mental map as manifestation spatial experience of students in order to increase effectiveness and meaningful learning of geography, including develop the student’s geographical skills.This research aims to identify mental map and geographical skills of student Department of Geography Education, Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI) and to analyze the correlation between mental map and the geographical skills.Research conducted at campus of UPI. The population research covering the active students of Department of Geography Education, UPI. This research is used survey method, colecting primary data from test and secondary data used documentary and literature study. The sample of this researh consist of 100 students which considered by stratified random sampling technique. This research using percentage and correlations product moment to analyze result of collected data. Based on the results of research, the student of Department of Geography have medium mental map and geographical skills. Less than half of students in Department of Geography Education have good mental map and the students who have good geographical skills also less than half of the samples..The results of researh showed strong relationship between mental map and the geography skills. The contributions mental map to geographical skills is significant at the aspects of asking geographic questions, inquiring geographic information, and answering geographic questions.
