Abstract

Penelitian ini dilatar belakangi oleh keprihatinan terhadap kondisi kualitas lingkungan yang semakin menurun disebabkan oleh perilaku manusia yang kurang memperhatikan pembangunan yang berkelanjutan (sustainable development) atau pembangunan berwawasan lingkungan. Penanggulangan masalah tersebut salah satunya dapat dilakukan melalui upaya pendidikan di lembaga formal yaitu dengan mengintegrasikan mata pelajaran IPS ke dalam program farming and gardening. Dengan program farming and gardening yang dilaksanakan di sekolah diharapkan pada setiap diri siswa dapat tumbuh dan berkembang green behavior. Pada proses pembelajaran IPS masih lebih banyak mengarah kepada penguasaan pengetahuan, sehingga perilaku siswa di sekolah masih kurang peduli terhadap lingkungan seperti membuang sampah sembarangan, memetik dan mematahkan tanaman, serta membiarkan air tidak ditutup setelah mencuci tangan. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode tindakan kelas yang bertujuan untuk mengetahui proses pembelajaran yang dilakukan oleh guru untuk mengembangkan green behavior melalui program farming and gardening pada pembelajaran IPS di SD Islam Fathia Kota Sukabumi. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan 3 tindakan atau 3 siklus. Berdasarkan temuan hasil penelitian ini diketahui bahwa terjadi peningkatan kinerja guru dari siklus 1, siklus 2, dan siklus 3 pada proses belajar dalam mengembangkan green behavior melalui program farming and gardening. Dengan demikian program farming and gardening yang diintegrasikan ke dalam mata pelajaran IPS dapat digunakan untuk menumbuh kembangkan green behavior bagi siswa di sekolah. Hal tersebut sesuai pendapat Michael K. Stone dan Zenobia Barlow dalam bukunya yang berjudul “Ecological Literacy” mereka membahas tentang bertani dan berkebun yang digunakan untuk menanam dan menumbuh kembangkan green habit sebagai pengembangan green behavior. This study was motivated by concerns about the condition of decreasing environmental quality caused by human behavior less attention to sustainable development or development of environmentally sound. Combating these problems one of them can be done through education in formal institutions is to integrate social studies into farming and gardening programs. With farming and gardening programs are held in schools, every student is expected to be able to grow and develop green behavior. In the process of learning social studies still focus more on mastery of knowledge, so that the behavior of the students in school are less concerned about the environment such as littering, picking and breaking crop, and let the water does not shut down after washing hands. This study uses Classroom Action Research that aims to understand the process of learning undertaken by teachers to develop green behavior through farming and gardening program in social studies learning at the Islamic elementary School of Fathia Sukabumi. This research was carried out 3 actions or 3 cycles. Based on the findings of this research note that an increase in teacher performance of cycle 1, cycle 2, and cycle 3 in the learning process in developing green behaviors through farming and gardening programs. Thus farming and gardening programs are integrated into the social studies can be used to cultivate green behavior for students at school. This is consistent opinion of Michael K. Stone and Zenobia Barlow in his book entitled "Ecological Literacy" they talked about farming and gardening are used to grow and cultivate green habits as developing green behaviors.
