Abstract

This research is motivated by low cognitive abilities fifth grade students of SDN 2 Suntenjaya primarily to material ratio and scale. This is evident from the results of the evaluation study - average 72% of the overall student has not reached the expected value of the KKM 64 Students find it difficult to interpret a concept into mathematical symbols and language as well as solve problems - problems associated with comparisons and scale . This is due to the way teachers are still learning and still conventional teacher-centered. This study aimed at the application of learning models Missouri Mathematics Project (MMP) to improve the cognitive abilities of students in the subject matter and scale comparison. Based on these problems, this study aims to: (1) describe the development of the implementation of learning math on a comparison of material and scale through the application of learning models Missouri Mathematics Project (MMP) in the fifth grade of elementary school students (2) describe an increase in the students' cognitive abilities and comparative material scale through the application of learning models Missouri Mathematics Project (MMP) in the fifth grade of elementary school students. The results using the model of Missouri Mathematics Project (MMP) in the learning of mathematics showed an increase in cognitive abilities. In the first cycle, the average value of students achieving 58. While on cycle to the second value - average 78 students achieve mastery learning with 86.6%. Based on these results, it can be concluded that the application of learning models Missouri Mathematics Project (MMP) can improve the cognitive abilities of students in mathematics subject matter and scale comparison. Students also feel happy and excited during the learning process takes place. Meanwhile, some of the suggestions to be presented include: (1) a teacher can assess and apply the learning model on Missouri Mathematics Project (MMP) in the other subject, that is expected to improve the quality of learning and other skills possessed by the student. (2) the presence of any learning task in the project, students are expected to construct their own knowledge and also can lead to social interaction among the students so that each student can create intimacy and communicative interaction during the learning process. Keyword : Model Missouri Mathematics Project, Comparative Materials And Scale Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh rendahnya kemampuan kognitif siswa kelas V SDN 2 Suntenjaya terutama terhadap materi perbandingan dan skala. Hal ini terlihat dari hasil evaluasi pembelajaran yang rata – rata 72% dari siswa keseluruhan belum mencapai nilai KKM yang diharapkan yaitu 64. Siswa merasa kesulitan untuk menginterpretasikan sebuah konsep kedalam simbol dan bahasa matematis dan juga ketika menyelesaikan masalah – masalah yang berhubungan dengan perbandingan dan skala. Hal ini disebabkan oleh cara pembelajaran guru yang masih konvensional dan masih berpusat kepada guru. Penelitian ini ditujukan pada penerapan model pembelajaran Missouri Mathematics Project (MMP) untuk meningkatkan kemampuan kognitif siswa pada materi pokok perbandingan dan skala. Berdasarkan permasalahan tersebut, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk : (1) mendeskripsikan perkembangan pelaksanaan pembelajaran matematika tentang materi perbandingan dan skala melalui penerapan model pembelajaran Missouri Mathematics Project (MMP) pada siswa kelas V sekolah dasar (2) mendeskripsikan peningkatan kemampuan kognitif siswa pada materi perbandingan dan skala melalui penerapan model pembelajaran Missouri Mathematics Project (MMP) pada siswa kelas V sekolah dasar. Hasil penelitian dengan menggunakan model Missouri Mathematics Project (MMP) pada pembelajaran matematika menunjukkan adanya peningkatan kemampuan kognitif. Pada siklus I, nilai rata-rata siswa mencapai 58. Sedangkan pada siklus ke II nilai rata – rata siswa mencapai 78 dengan ketuntasan belajar 86,6%. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian tersebut, dapat disimpulkan bahwa penerapan model pembelajaran Missouri Mathematics Project (MMP) dapat meningkatkan kemampuan kognitif siswa pada mata pelajaran matematika materi pokok perbandingan dan skala. Siswa juga merasa senang dan antusias selama proses pembelajaran berlangsung. Adapun, beberapa saran yang hendak disampaikan antara lain : (1) guru dapat mengkaji dan menerapkan kembali model pembelajaran Missouri Mathematics Project (MMP) pada pokok bahasan lain, agar diharapkan dapat meningkatkan kualitas pembelajaran dan kemampuan-kemampuan lainnya yang dimiliki oleh siswa. (2) dengan adanya tugas proyek pada setiap pembelajaran, diharapkan siswa dapat mengkonstruksi sendiri pengetahuannya dan dapat menimbulkan pula interaksi sosial antar siswa sehingga dapat menciptakan keakraban setiap siswa dan interaksi yang komunikatif selama proses pembelajaran.
