Abstract

Fenomena penggunaan kembali potongan karya musik klasik dalam lagu-lagu K-Pop merepresentasikan praktik sound recycling yang kian lazim dalam produksi musik populer masa kini. Perkembangan teknologi audio dan kemunculan platform digital telah membuka peluang bagi produser musik untuk mendaur ulang rekaman karya-karya masa lalu, sehingga menciptakan bentuk ekspresi musikal baru dengan estetika yang berbeda. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis bentuk dan fungsi penggunaan sampel musik klasik dalam lagu-lagu K-Pop serta mengkaji implikasinya terhadap estetika musikal dan praktik produksi masa kini. Metode yang digunakan adalah analisis konten (content analysis) dengan pendekatan kualitatif, berdasarkan dokumentasi berbagai konten YouTube yang memuat pembahasan. Data dianalisis melalui pengamatan terhadap unsur-unsur musikal parametris, seperti motif, harmoni, tekstur, serta penempatan sampel dalam struktur lagu K-Pop yang bersangkutan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa praktik sampling tidak hanya memiliki fungsi estetis, tetapi juga menjadi bagian dari strategi branding, storytelling, dan upaya rekontekstualisasi warisan budaya musik klasik dalam lanskap musik populer Korea. Dengan demikian, praktik sound recycling dalam musik K-Pop mencerminkan terjadinya transformasi nilai dan fungsi karya musik klasik, dari sekadar artefak historis menjadi elemen strategis dalam produksi budaya massa. Fenomena ini menunjukkan adanya interaksi dinamis antara inovasi teknologi, warisan musikal, dan industri hiburan global dalam membentuk wajah musik populer masa kini. The phenomenon of reusing fragments of classical music in K-Pop songs represents the increasingly common practice of sound recycling in today’s popular music production. The advancement of audio technology and the emergence of digital platforms have opened opportunities for music producers to recycle recordings of past works, thereby creating new forms of musical expression with distinct aesthetics. This study aims to analyze the form and function of classical music sampling in K-Pop songs, as well as examine its implications for musical aesthetics and contemporary production practices. The method used is content analysis with a qualitative approach, based on documentation from various YouTube contents that provide discussions and direct comparisons between classical compositions and K-Pop songs that sample them. The data were analyzed through observation of parametric musical elements such as motifs, harmony, texture, and the placement of samples within the structure of the respective K-Pop songs. The findings show that sampling practices serve not only an aesthetic function but also play a role in branding strategies, storytelling, and efforts to recontextualize the cultural heritage of classical music within the landscape of Korean popular music. Thus, sound recycling in K-Pop reflects a transformation in the value and function of classical works—from mere historical artifacts to strategic elements in the production of mass culture. This phenomenon illustrates a dynamic interaction between technological innovation, musical heritage, and the global entertainment industry in shaping the face of contemporary popular music.
