Abstract
PT. PLN is currently promoting the implementation of digitalization of substations as a step to improve the efficiency and reliability of the electricity distribution system. One of the components in the digital protection system is the Over Current Relay based on sample value that will replace the conventional OCR relay. This study aims to compare the performance of conventional OCR relays and sample value OCR relays in detecting overcurrent disturbances, focusing on the parameters of current reading ratio, response time, and pick-up and drop-off values. The testing was conducted using a secondary injection method with the Omicron CMC 356 device and the NR Electric-type relay that supports sample value technology. The research results show that the sample value relay has more stable current readings compared to the conventional OCR relay, which tends to experience fluctuations. In terms of operating time, the sample value relay shows a faster response and smaller deviation. In the pick-up and drop-off tests, both relays showed the same results where both relays functioned as intended. Based on this research, sample value-based OCR relays are assessed to have advantages in accuracy, response speed, and stability, thus having the potential to become a primary choice in supporting the implementation of digital substations in PLN environments. Keywords: sample value OCR, Digital Substation, Overcurrent.
