Irene Ana Wakman Penulis ANALISIS TRADISI ARAREM SUKU BIAK SEBAGAI REPRESENTASI STRUKTUR DAN FUNGSI KELUARGA Oleh : Irene Ana Wakman NIM 2109589 ABSTRAK Penelitian ini berjudul AnalisisTradisi Ararem Suku Biak sebagai Representasi Struktur dan Fungsi Keluarga. Tradisi Ararem merupakan salah satu praktik adat dalam perkawinan masyarakat Biak yang tidak hanya dimaknai sebagai prosesi seremonial, tetapi juga sebagai representasi nilai budaya, identitas kolektif, serta mekanisme penguatan peran keluarga. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis bagaimana tradisi Ararem mencerminkan struktur dan fungsi keluarga dalam kehidupan sosial masyarakat Biak. Metode yang digunakan adalah pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif dengan pengumpulan data melalui studi literatur, observasi, dan dokumentasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa tradisi Ararem merefleksikan nilai dan peran keluarga besar dalam menjaga solidaritas, kehormatan, serta kesinambungan kekerabatan. Struktur dan fungsi keluarga tampak melalui keterlibatan ayah, ibu, kerabat dekat maupun jauh dalam bentuk pemberian barang hantaran dan partisipasi adat. Selain itu, tradisi ini juga memperlihatkan adanya dinamika tuntutan keluarga yang dapat menimbulkan beban sosial, khususnya bagi pihak laki-laki, sekaligus menjadi sarana penegasan tanggung jawab individu terhadap keluarga dan masyarakat. Dengan demikian, Ararem dapat dipahami sebagai simbol ketahanan keluarga yang menekankan nilai gotong royong, solidaritas, dan kesinambungan hubungan kekerabatan dalam masyarakat Biak. Kata Kunci: Fungsi Keluarga, Struktur Keluarga, Suku Biak, Tradisi Ararem Analysis of the Biak Tribe's Ararems Tradition as a Representation of Family Structure and Function By : Irene Ana Wakman NIM 2109589 ABSTRACT This research is titled Analysis of the Biak Tribe's Ararem Tradition as a Representation of Family Structure and Function. The Ararem Tradition is a customary practice in Biak community marriages, interpreted not only as a ceremonial procession but also as a representation of cultural values, collective identity, and a mechanism for strengthening family roles. This study aims to analyze how the Ararem tradition reflects family structure and function within the social life of the Biak community. The method employed is a descriptive qualitative approach, collecting data through literature review, observation, and documentation. The findings indicate that the Ararem tradition reflects the values and roles of the extended family in maintaining solidarity, honor, and the continuity of kinship. Family structure and function are evident through the involvement of the father, mother, and both near and distant relatives, demonstrated by the giving of presentation items (dowry/gifts) and customary participation. Furthermore, this tradition also highlights the dynamics of family demands, which can create a social burden, especially for the male party, while simultaneously serving as a means of affirming individual responsibility toward the family and community. Thus, Ararem can be understood as a symbol of family resilience that emphasizes the values of mutual cooperation (gotong royong), solidarity, and the continuity of kinship ties in the Biak community.
