Abstract

Penelitian yang berjudul “Profil Model Mental Siswa SMA pada Materi Sistem Koloid” ini dilakukan dengan menggunakan metode deskriptif. Penelitian ini dilakukan pada 46 siswa SMA kelas XII Jurusan IPA di salah satu SMA di Kota Bandung dengan tujuan untuk mengetahui profil model mental siswa pada materi sistem koloid. Instrumen berupa tes diagnostik pilihan ganda dua tingkat (TDM-PGDT), atau two-tier multiple-choice diagnostic test. Tes memuat butir-butir soal yang mengaitkan tiga level representasi kimia yaitu level makroskopik, sub-mikroskopik, dan simbolik. Pemahaman siswa pada level makroskopik dan simbolik digali pada tingkat pertama soal, sedangkan pemahaman siswa pada level sub-mikroskopik digali pada tingkat kedua soal. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian ditemukan sebanyak 21% siswa memiliki model mental tipe-11, 46% siswa memiliki model mental tipe-00, 11% siswa memiliki model mental tipe-01, dan 22% siswa memiliki model mental tipe-10. Model mental tipe-00 mendominasi pemahaman siswa pada materi sistem koloid, sehingga dapat dikatakan masih banyak siswa yang belum bisa memahami materi sistem koloid menggunakan tiga level representasi.-------- This study investigate the senior high school students’ mental models of colloids subject. This study adopt descriptive method in assessing 46 students at Grade XII in science major from one senior high school in Bandung. The objective of this study was to gain the information about students’ mental models of colloids using two-tier multiple-choice diagnostic test instrument. The first tier of this instrument was used to investigate students’ mental models in macroscopic and symbolic levels, while the second tier was used to investigate students’ mental models in sub-microscopic level. About 21% students has the mental models type-11, 46% students has the mental models type-00, 11% students has the mental models type-01, and 22% students has the mental models type-10. The result of this study indicated that almost half of the students had mental models type-00. It can be concluded that most of the students could not understand how the interdependence of chemistry triplet representations in the colloids subject.
