    Abstract

In the digital era, the ability to think critically has become a fundamental competency that students must possess in order to analyze information, evaluate evidence, and develop effective solutions to complex problems. One promising instructional innovation designed to cultivate these competencies is the Creative Problem Solving (CPS) strategy integrated with the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) approach. The purpose of this study was to: (1) examine the implementation of CPS-STEM learning and students’ perceptions of the learning process, (2) analyze the differences in critical thinking skills between students in the experimental and control groups, and (3) evaluate the improvement of critical thinking skills after the application of CPS-STEM. A quasi-experimental design with a non-equivalent control group was employed, involving vocational high school students who were divided into experimental and control classes. Data were gathered through classroom observations, student questionnaires, and critical thinking assessments. The findings revealed that the implementation of CPS-STEM learning was highly effective, with students responding positively to the instructional strategy. Furthermore, although improvements in critical thinking skills were observed in both groups, the experimental class achieved a significantly greater increase compared to the control class. Statistical analyses confirmed substantial differences between pretest and posttest scores as well as between groups. These results indicate that CPS-STEM is an effective pedagogical alternative for enhancing students’ critical thinking abilities and provides a relevant framework for addressing the demands and challenges of 21st-century education.
