Abstract
Pengembangan pariwisata yang berkelanjutan sangat bergantung pada dukungan dan persepsi positif masyarakat lokal sebagai aktor utama di wilayah destinasi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis pengaruh persepsi masyarakat terhadap dampak pengembangan pariwisata terhadap daya saing destinasi, serta menguji peran mediasi identitas tempat dalam hubungan tersebut. Penelitian dilakukan di Kabupaten Purwakarta dengan pendekatan kuantitatif melalui survei terhadap 341 responden. Data dianalisis menggunakan Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) dengan bantuan AMOS. Hasil analisis deskriptif menunjukkan bahwa masyarakat memiliki persepsi yang positif terhadap dampak pariwisata, identitas tempat yang kuat, dan menilai daya saing destinasi cukup tinggi. Namun, hasil pengujian model struktural menunjukkan bahwa persepsi masyarakat tidak berpengaruh langsung terhadap daya saing destinasi. Sebaliknya, persepsi tersebut berpengaruh terhadap identitas tempat, yang kemudian berdampak positif terhadap daya saing. Identitas tempat juga terbukti memediasi secara penuh hubungan antara persepsi masyarakat dan daya saing destinasi. Temuan ini menunjukkan bahwa penguatan identitas tempat menjadi kunci dalam menghubungkan persepsi masyarakat dengan pembangunan pariwisata yang berdaya saing. Secara teoritis, hasil ini memperluas model daya saing destinasi dengan memasukkan aspek psikososial masyarakat. Implikasi praktisnya, pengelolaan pariwisata perlu berbasis nilai-nilai lokal yang memperkuat keterikatan masyarakat terhadap wilayahnya. The sustainability of tourism development largely depends on the support and positive perception of local communities as key actors in the destination area. This study aims to analyze the influence of community perceptions of the impacts of tourism development on destination competitiveness, and to examine the mediating role of place identity in this relationship. The study was conducted in Purwakarta Regency using a quantitative approach through a survey of 341 respondents. Data were analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) with the aid of AMOS. Descriptive analysis results indicate that the community holds positive perceptions of tourism impacts, possesses a strong place identity, and perceives a relatively high level of destination competitiveness. However, the structural model testing showed that community perception does not have a direct effect on destination competitiveness. Instead, these perceptions influence place identity, which in turn has a positive impact on competitiveness. Place identity is also found to fully mediate the relationship between community perception and destination competitiveness. These findings highlight that strengthening place identity is key to linking community perceptions with competitive tourism development. Theoretically, this study extends destination competitiveness models by incorporating psychosocial aspects of the local community. Practically, tourism management should be grounded in local values that strengthen community attachment to their place.
