    Abstract

Introduction: Falls are one of the main problems faced by the elderly, especially due to decreased musculoskeletal system function which impacts balance and muscle strength. Otago Exercise, is one of the exercises designed to improve lower extremity muscle strength and body balance to reduce the risk of falls. Objective: To determine how Otago Exercise reduces the risk of falls in the elderly in a nursing home environment. Method: This research is a qualitative case study that aims to evaluate Otago Exercise in reducing the risk of falls in one 77-year-old elderly person at the Tresna Werdha Budhi Pertiwi Social Home. The intervention was carried out for three days a week with a duration of 30 minutes, and the measurement of fall risk was carried out using the Berg Balance Scale (BBS) instrument before and after the intervention. Results: The results showed an increase in the BBS score from 35 (moderate fall risk) to 44 (low fall risk), which indicates an increase in body balance and a decrease in the risk of falls. Conclusion: It can be concluded from these results that Otago Exercise is an effective, structured, non-pharmacological intervention and can be recommended for continuous implementation in geriatric nursing services to improve the quality of life of the elderly.
