    Abstract

    The global construction industry has been criticised for its slow adoption of transformative technologies, with persistent challenges of fragmentation, poor communication, and weak coordination. Building Information Modeling (BIM) has emerged as a promising solution to address these inefficiencies by enhancing collaboration and project delivery. In Ghana, however, BIM adoption remains limited, largely due to systemic, organizational, and contextual barriers. Against the backdrop of global digital transformation, understanding the dynamics of BIM adoption in Ghana is critically important. This study investigated BIM awareness, adoption readiness, influential factors, perceived impacts on project performance, and strategies for effective adoption. An exploratory sequential mixed-methods design was employed, beginning with semi-structured interviews of 21 construction industry stakeholders, followed by a nationwide survey of 380 construction professionals. Qualitative data were analysed thematically, while quantitative data were examined using descriptive statistics, factor analysis, and Structural Equation Modelling (SEM). The findings reveal that although BIM awareness is widespread, practical knowledge and skills remain insufficient. Organizational and technological readiness is also low, characterized by inadequate digital infrastructure, limited strategic planning, and weak leadership support. Key drivers of adoption include improved visualization, collaboration, and cost efficiency, while major barriers include a shortage of skilled professionals, poor IT systems, and lack of regulatory frameworks. Importantly, BIM adoption was perceived to significantly improve project performance by enhancing coordination, project quality, and change order management. The study contributes a context-specific BIM Adoption Framework for Ghana, providing a practical roadmap for implementation. Unlike previous fragmented studies, this research offers the first integrated, industry-wide assessment of BIM adoption in Ghana, filling a critical gap. Theoretically, it advances knowledge on BIM adoption in developing contexts; practically, it provides actionable strategies for policymakers and construction industry stakeholders to drive digital transformation in the construction sector. Industri konstruksi global telah dikritik karena lambatnya adopsi teknologi yang transformatif, dengan tantangan yang terus-menerus berupa fragmentasi, komunikasi yang buruk, dan koordinasi yang lemah. Building Information Modeling (BIM) muncul sebagai solusi yang menjanjikan untuk mengatasi ketidakefisienan ini dengan meningkatkan kolaborasi dan pelaksanaan proyek. Namun, di Ghana, adopsi BIM masih terbatas, terutama karena hambatan sistemik, organisasional, dan kontekstual. Dalam konteks transformasi digital global, memahami dinamika adopsi BIM di Ghana menjadi sangat krusial. Studi ini menyelidiki tingkat kesadaran terhadap BIM, kesiapan adopsi, faktor-faktor yang berpengaruh, dampak yang dipersepsikan terhadap kinerja proyek, serta strategi untuk adopsi yang efektif. Desain metode campuran sekuensial eksploratori digunakan, dimulai dengan wawancara semi-terstruktur terhadap 21 pemangku kepentingan industri, kemudian dilanjutkan dengan survei berskala nasional terhadap 380 profesional konstruksi. Data kualitatif dianalisis secara tematik, sedangkan data kuantitatif diuji menggunakan statistik deskriptif, analisis faktor, dan Structural Equation Modelling (SEM). Temuan menunjukkan bahwa meskipun kesadaran terhadap BIM sudah luas, pengetahuan dan keterampilan praktis masih belum memadai. Kesiapan organisasional dan teknologi juga rendah, yang ditandai oleh infrastruktur digital yang kurang memadai, perencanaan strategis yang terbatas, serta dukungan kepemimpinan yang lemah. Pendorong utama adopsi mencakup peningkatan visualisasi, kolaborasi, dan efisiensi biaya, sementara hambatan utama meliputi kelangkaan tenaga profesional terampil, sistem TI yang buruk, dan ketiadaan kerangka regulasi. Pentingnya, adopsi BIM dipersepsikan secara signifikan meningkatkan kinerja proyek melalui peningkatan koordinasi, kualitas proyek, dan pengelolaan perubahan pekerjaan (change order). Studi ini menyumbangkan Kerangka Adopsi BIM yang spesifik konteks untuk Ghana, menyediakan peta jalan praktis bagi implementasi. Berbeda dari studi-studi sebelumnya yang terfragmentasi, riset ini menawarkan penilaian terintegrasi pertama secara lintas industri mengenai adopsi BIM di Ghana, sehingga mengisi kesenjangan kritis. Secara teoretis, penelitian ini memperkaya pengetahuan tentang adopsi BIM dalam konteks negara berkembang; secara praktis, penelitian ini menyediakan strategi yang dapat ditindaklanjuti bagi para pembuat kebijakan dan pemangku kepentingan industri untuk mendorong transformasi digital di sektor konstruksi
