Abstract
Buku cerita anak dianggap sebagai sarana penting untuk mendiskusikan emosi dan perasaan, salah satunya adalah emosi duka yang dipahami sebagai emosi yang sering kali terasa berat bagi anak-anak. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengidentifikasi bagaimana konsep duka direpresentasikan dalam buku cerita anak melalui analisis moda verbal, moda visual, dan relasi intersemiosis keduanya. Pendekatan yang digunakan adalah kualitatif deskriptif dengan data berupa teks naratif dan ilustrasi dari empat buku cerita anak bertema duka. Analisis dilakukan dengan menggunakan metafungsi ideasional dalam LSF (Halliday, 1985), makna representasional dalam tata bahasa visual (Kress & van Leeuwen, 2006), serta teori intersemiosis multimodal (Unsworth, 2006). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa secara verbal, duka direpresentasikan melalui proses material, mental, verbal, dan eksistensial, dengan partisipan utama berupa Actor, Senser, Sayer, dan Existent. Sirkumstansi yang dominan adalah Location dan Manner. Dalam moda visual, duka direpresentasikan melalui proses naratif dengan jenis transaksi aksi dan reaksi dengan partisipan diposisikan sebagai Actor dan Reactor, serta sirkumstansi setting yang turut membangun suasana emosional. Relasi intersemiosis menunjukkan bahwa moda verbal dan visual saling melengkapi dalam mengonstruksi makna duka secara utuh. Representasi duka yang terintegrasi ini menunjukkan potensi buku cerita anak sebagai sarana pengembangan bahasa, kognisi, dan afeksi anak. Namun demikian, karena bentuk representasi bersifat abstrak, diperlukan pendampingan visual atau peran orang dewasa agar makna dapat tersampaikan secara tepat. Children's picture books are regarded as a significant medium for discussing emotions and feelings, particularly grief, which is often perceived as a challenging emotion for children to process. This study aims to identify how the concept of grief is represented in children's picture books by analysing the realization in both verbal and visual modes, and how these modes interact through intersemiotic to construct meaning as a whole. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, the data consists of four children's picture books with a grief theme. The data collected includes narrative texts and illustrations found in the picture books. The data were analysed using the ideational metafunction analysis from Systemic Functional Linguistics (Halliday, 1985), the representational meaning analysis from Visual Grammar (Kress & van Leeuwen, 2006), and the intersemiotic relationships between modes (Unsworth, 2006). The findings show that, verbally, grief is represented through material, mental, verbal, and existential processes, with participants as Actor, Senser, Sayer, and Existent. The dominant circumstantial representations of grief are Location and Manner. Visually, grief is represented through narrative processes, with transactional action and reaction types, as well as the setting illustrations that contribute to the emotional atmosphere. The intersemiotic relationship between verbal and visual modes shows that both modes complement each other to form a cohesive meaning. The integrated representation of grief demonstrates that children's picture books can serve as tools for language, cognitive, and affective development. However, due to the abstract nature of these representations, visual support or adult guidance is necessary to ensure that the intended meaning is fully conveyed.
