Abstract
Bandung City is one of the areas with the highest tuberculosis (TB) cases in West Java. TB survivors face the challenge of stigma and discrimination that develops in society. People show negative attitudes and behaviours towards TB survivors, so that it becomes the main obstacle in efforts to solve tuberculosis. This research aims to analyse the efforts of the Terjang Community in deconstructing the meaning of stigma and encouraging the resilience process of TB survivors in the context of urban social life. This research uses a qualitative approach with a case study method. Data collection techniques are carried out through observation, interview, and documentation. Observation is carried out by observing educational and socialisation activities carried out by the community. The interview was conducted with 3 survivors, 3 community administrators, and 4 supporting informants who were selected through purposive sampling. Documentation is done by collecting documents in the form of digital/printed documents and photos. To interpret data, researchers analyse with interactive models through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. Research results show that: 1) The Terjang Community deconstructs the meaning of stigma through experience-based educational activities to shift negative perceptions, prejudices, and disseminate new meanings; 2) In the context of resilience, the Terjang Community plays a role in building self-esteem, strengthening social support, and facilitating adaptation strategies and life motivation for TB survivors; and 3) The impact of the Terjang Community shows positive impacts in the form of increased knowledge, changes in attitudes, increased solidarity, and strengthening the role of the community in education, assistance, and advocacy. Practically, a community-based approach can overcome stigma and encourage resilience in TB survivors. Theoretically, the research results confirm that stigma can be deconstructed, and resilience is not only an individual capacity, but also the result of social relations.
