Abstract

Pertunjukan wayang golek merupakan seni pertunjukan Sunda yang kompleks, memadukan unsur dramatik dan musikal dengan durasi panjang hingga tujuh jam. Dalam struktur ini, pesinden memegang peran strategis bukan hanya sebagai penyaji vokal, tetapi juga sebagai penghubung ekspresif antara dalang, ansambel, dan audiens. Penelitian ini mengkaji kompetensi pesinden dalam kategori personal dan musikal melalui studi kasus pertunjukan lakon Dewa Nurcahya oleh Grup Giriharja 3 Putra, dengan Masyuning sebagai pesinden utama. Metode penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif dengan teknik observasi pertunjukan, wawancara mendalam, dan studi dokumentasi. Analisis dilakukan menggunakan kerangka Spencer & Spencer yang membedakan antara kompetensi personal dan kompetensi musikal. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kompetensi pesinden dapat dipetakan ke dalam dua dimensi besar, yakni personal dan musikal. Kedua dimensi ini berjalin erat dan menegaskan bahwa keberhasilan pesinden tidak hanya ditentukan oleh penguasaan teknis vokal, tetapi juga kecakapan adaptif dalam membaca konteks, berkomunikasi, serta menjaga kesinambungan pertunjukan. Penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa pesinden dalam wayang golek memainkan peran kunci dalam integrasi aspek musikal dan personal, sehingga pertunjukan berjalan lancar, hidup, dan ekspresif. Temuan ini menegaskan pentingnya dokumentasi kompetensi pesinden sebagai dasar pengembangan kajian akademik dan pelestarian tradisi kepesindenan Sunda. Wayang golek is a complex Sundanese performing art that combines dramatic and musical elements with a duration of up to seven hours. Within this structure, the pesinden holds a strategic role not only as a vocal performer but also as an expressive bridge between the dalang, the ensemble, and the audience. This study examines the competencies of the pesinden in both personal and musical categories through a case study of the Dewa Nurcahya performance by Giriharja 3 Putra, featuring Masyuning as the main pesinden. The research employed a descriptive qualitative approach through performance observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, analyzed using the Spencer & Spencer framework, which distinguishes between personal and musical competencies. The findings show that the pesinden’s competencies can be mapped into two major dimensions: personal and musical. These two dimensions are closely interwoven, affirming that the success of a pesinden is determined not only by technical vocal mastery but also by adaptive abilities in interpreting context, communicating effectively, and maintaining the continuity of the performance. This study concludes that the pesinden in wayang golek plays a key role in integrating musical and personal aspects, ensuring the performance runs smoothly, vibrantly, and expressively. The findings highlight the importance of documenting pesinden competencies as a foundation for academic development and the preservation of Sundanese performing arts traditions.
