Abstract
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis pengaruh pola asuh permisif dan otoriter dalam pembentukan perilaku Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD) di kalangan mahasiswa, serta dampak perilaku NPD tersebut terhadap interaksi teman sebaya. Menggunakan desain sequential explanatory mixed-method, tahap pertama melibatkan survei kuantitatif diikuti wawancara kualitatif. Hasil penelitian kuantitatif menunjukan berdasarkan hasil uji regresi bahwa pola asuh permisif berpengaruh positif signifikan terhadap NPD, dengan t-hitung = 5,147 > t-tabel 1,985, begitu pula pola asuh otoriter dengan t-hitung = 3,459 > 1,985; p < 0,05. Adapun Temuan kualitatif memperlihatkan bahwa mahasiswa dengan kecenderungan NPD menampilkan identitas grandiose di hadapan teman sebaya, cenderung mendominasi dinamika kelompok, dan terus mencari simbol-simbol status untuk mengukuhkan diri. Akibatnya, seiring waktu perilaku ini dapat merenggangkan relasi sosial, teman sebaya awalnya terkesan dengan karisma dan kepercayaan diri individu NPD, namun penerimaan sosial menurun ketika muncul sikap egois dan kurang empati. Kesimpulannya, pola asuh permisif maupun otoriter berperan dalam pembentukan perilaku narsistik mahasiswa yang berdampak pada interaksi sosial mereka, sehingga diperlukan keseimbangan pola asuh untuk mencegah perkembangan NPD. This study examines the influence of permissive and authoritarian parenting styles on the development of Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD) behaviors among students, and the impact of these behaviors on peer interactions. Employing a sequential explanatory mixed-method design, an initial quantitative survey was followed by in-depth qualitative interviews. Regression analysis revealed that permissive parenting positively and significantly predicts NPD (t = 5.147 > 1.985; p < 0.05), as does authoritarian parenting (t = 3.459 > 1.985; p < 0.05). Qualitative results reveal that students with NPD tendencies project a grandiose self-identity among peers, tend to dominate group dynamics, and continuously seek status symbols to reinforce their self-image. Consequently, over time these behaviors can strain social relationships: peers may initially be impressed by the individual’s charisma and confidence, but social acceptance wanes as egocentric and low-empathy behaviors emerge. In conclusion, both permissive and authoritarian parenting contribute to the development of narcissistic behavior in students, which in turn affects their peer interactions, highlighting the need for balanced parenting to prevent NPD trait development.
