    Abstract

Essentially, the father figure serves as a role model for daughters in shaping their criteria for an ideal partner. However, in fatherless families, this role is not fulfilled, so the criteria for a partner are formed based on past experiences, interactions with the social environment, and representations obtained from social media. This situation has the potential to create unrealistic expectations, which indirectly opens the door to toxic relationships, as there is a need for a partner who can replace the father's role while also meeting those expectations. The purpose of this study is to conduct an in-depth analysis of the constructs believed by women in fatherless conditions, which have implications for the formation of toxic relationships. This study employs a qualitative approach using the phenomenological method among women in fatherless conditions who have experienced toxic relationships at UPI Bandung. Data collection techniques include interviews, observations, and document analysis. The results of the study indicate that: (1) the experience of the absence of a father's role, the influence of the social environment, and social media representations shape the characteristics of an ideal partner, such as a partner who is dominant, can replace the father's role, provides a sense of security and attention, follows social media standards, and meets emotional and financial needs; (2) the internalized meaning of these experiences unconsciously opens the door to toxic relationships, where partners fulfill needs and desires while subtly placing women in subordinate roles and engaging in toxic behaviors that are considered normal by fatherless women; (3) fatherless women often do not realize they are in toxic relationships because their partners' behaviors are interpreted as expressions of love. Awareness then emerges when toxic behavior recurs and resembles past experiences. Support from family, peers, and professional help are key to recovering from trauma.
