Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji pembentukan identitas sosial melalui keterlibatan sosial dan politik komunitas Bobotoh Persib Bandung. Grand theory yang digunakan adalah komunitarianisme, yang menekankan bahwa identitas individu terbentuk dalam jaringan komunitas dan solidaritas sosial; keterlibatan dalam aktivitas sosial dan politik menjadi sarana pembelajaran kolektif yang menumbuhkan rasa kebersamaan, tanggung jawab, dan komitmen terhadap nilai komunitas. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan campuran, dengan teknik pengumpulan data melalui observasi, wawancara, studi dokumentasi, dan penyebaran angket kepada anggota komunitas. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa identitas sosial Bobotoh terbentuk melalui tahapan kategorisasi sosial, depersonalisasi, dan standarisasi identitas, dipengaruhi oleh faktor internal seperti loyalitas terhadap Persib dan rasa memiliki komunitas, serta faktor eksternal seperti media, lingkungan sosial, dan relasi kuasa politik lokal. Tingkat keterlibatan Bobotoh dalam kegiatan sosial tergolong tinggi (84,2%), demikian pula dalam politik (78,8%), meskipun terdapat hambatan berupa anarkisme, eksklusivisme, dan eksploitasi politik. Temuan ini menegaskan bahwa komunitas suporter berfungsi sebagai ruang alternatif pembentukan identitas sosial berbasis pengalaman, budaya, dan partisipasi, yang secara langsung memperkuat keterlibatan anggota sebagai warga negara yang aktif dalam kehidupan sosial dan politik. This study aims to investigate the formation of social identity through the social and political engagement of the Bobotoh Persib Bandung community. The grand theory applied is communitarianism, which posits that individual identity is constructed within networks of community and social solidarity; participation in social and political activities functions as a collective learning process that cultivates a sense of togetherness, responsibility, and commitment to communal values. This study employs a mixed-methods approach, with data collected through observation, interviews, document analysis, and questionnaires administered to community members. The findings indicate that Bobotoh’s social identity is formed through the processes of social categorization, depersonalization, and identity standardization, influenced by internal factors such as loyalty to Persib and a sense of belonging to the community, as well as external factors including media, social environment, and local political power relations. The level of engagement in social activities was found to be high (84.2%), as was political engagement (78.8%), despite obstacles such as anarchic behavior, exclusivism, and political exploitation. These results highlight that the supporter community serves as an alternative arena for social identity formation based on experience, culture, and participatory practice, which in turn directly reinforces members’ civic engagement as active participants in social and political life.
