    Abstract

    Penelitian ini menganalisis peran gerakan straight edge (sXe) sebagai katalisator transformasi sosial dalam subkultur underground. Berakar dari skena hardcore punk sejak 1980-an, straight edge menekankan gaya hidup bebas alkohol, narkoba, rokok, dan perilaku destruktif sebagai bentuk resistensi terhadap konsumerisme dan hedonisme. Di Bandung, gerakan ini berkembang sejak 1990-an melalui kolektif DIY seperti BalKot Terror Project. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan fenomenologi, dan Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis, untuk mengintegrasikan teori New Social Movement (NSMT), teori subkultur, dan konsep transformasi sosial untuk mengkaji dinamika identitas kolektif, mobilisasi, dan resistensi budaya. Informan yang terlibat dalam penelitian ini terdiri atas penggiat straight edge, penggiat underground non-straight edge, dan juga masyarakat umum. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa straight edge berfungsi sebagai katalisator melalui pembentukan identitas fluida yang inklusif, kritik terhadap hegemoni budaya, dan praktik DIY yang mendorong transformasi diri dalam komunitas underground. Penerimaan masyarakat luas cenderung positif sebagai tren gaya hidup sehat, sementara komunitas underground menerima melalui solidaritas lintas-subkultur, meskipun sempat dihambat persepsi dogmatisme. Faktor penguat meliputi peran band sebagai role model, relevansi nilai global, dan adaptasi nilai lokal. Sedangkan penghambat mencakup komodifikasi simbol dan perbedaan interpretasi nilai. Temuan ini menggambarkan bahwa straight edge tidak hanya eksis sebagai lifestyle pribadi, tetapi juga sebagai agen perubahan sosial. This study analyzes the role of the straight edge (sXe) movement as a catalyst for social transformation within the underground subculture. Rooted in the hardcore punk scene since the 1980s, straight edge emphasizes a lifestyle free from alcohol, drugs, cigarettes, and destructive behaviors as a form of resistance against consumerism and hedonism. In Bandung, the movement has developed since the 1990s through DIY collectives such as the BalKot Terror Project. This research employs a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach and Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis, integrating New Social Movement Theory (NSMT), subcultural theory, and the concept of social transformation to examine the dynamics of collective identity, mobilization, and cultural resistance. The informants in this study consist of straight edge activists, non-straight edge underground participants, and members of the general public. The findings reveal that straight edge functions as a catalyst through the formation of a fluid and inclusive identity, critique of cultural hegemony, and DIY practices that encourage self-transformation within the underground community. Broader society tends to perceive it positively as a healthy lifestyle trend, while the underground community accepts it through cross-subcultural solidarity, despite occasional obstacles posed by perceptions of dogmatism. Strengthening factors include the role of bands as role models, the relevance of global values, and the adaptation of local values. Meanwhile, inhibiting factors encompass the commodification of symbols and differing interpretations of values. These findings illustrate that straight edge exists not merely as a personal lifestyle but also as an agent of social change.
