    Abstract

This study aimed to examine the role of Problematic Social Media Use (PSMU) in mediating the effect of Social Anxiety on Depressive Symptoms among emerging adult migrants in Bandung. The study employed a quantitative approach, the sampling technique used was non probability sampling with an incidental method, involving 564 emerging adult migrants in Bandung. The instruments used in this study included the Social Anxiety Scale for Adolescents (SAS-A) (α = 0.929), the Bergen Social Media Addiction Scale (BSMAS) (α = 0.91), and the Beck Depression Inventory-II (BDI-II) (α = 0.89). Data analysis was conducted using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) to examine mediation and the effect among variables. The results showed that Problematic Social Media Use significantly mediated the effect between social anxiety and depressive symptoms. The path coefficients indicated that PSMU had an effect on depressive symptoms with a coefficient of 0.397 (z = 4.196), social anxiety had a direct effect on depressive symptoms with a coefficient of 0.365 (z = 11.680), and social anxiety had an effect PSMU with a coefficient of 0.105 (z = 7.928).
