Siti Nur Alfiyah, - (2025) DAMPAK KETIADAAN FIGUR AYAH TERHADAP KEPERCAYAAN DIRI ANAK USIA 5-6 TAHUN. S1 thesis, Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia.
Abstract
The presence of a father figure plays a significant role in shaping the self-confidence of young children. However, not all children experience this presence due to circumstances such as the death or divorce of their parents. This study aims to describe the self-confidence of a 5–6-year-old child who lost her father at the age of two, analyze the impact of the absence of a father figure on the development of the child’s self-confidence, and identify the efforts made by the mother to support the development of that confidence. This research employs a qualitative approach using a case study method, focusing on a single subject— referred to as A—at TK Aisyiyah 45 Cengkareng. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews with the child’s mother and classroom teacher, and documentation. The findings reveal that the absence of a father figure affects the development of the child’s self-confidence. The child demonstrates underdeveloped confidence, particularly in belief in personal ability, objective self-evaluation, and emotional expression. However, the child also shows potential in areas such as optimism when facing challenges and responsibility in completing tasks, although still requiring support from the surrounding environment. The mother, as the primary caregiver, plays a critical role in nurturing the child’s confidence through affection, emotional support, verbal encouragement, and active involvement in the child’s daily activities both at school and home. Based on these findings, it is recommended that schools collaborate with parents to implement self-confidence development programs, particularly for children who have lost a father figure. Additionally, schools and communities should provide special attention and support to single-mother families to foster optimal child development.
