    Abstract

The Banda Sea is located in the eastern part of Indonesia and is located in Maluku Province. It’s water characteristics are very complex because they play an important role in the ocean's circulation with the atmosphere. One of the seasonal patterns of the Banda Sea that has an impact on oceanographic parameters is the El Niño–Southern Oscillation (ENSO). Yellowfin tuna is one of the species in a large pelagic fish population that is sensitive to changes in its environment. This temperature variability greatly affects the fishing grounds of yellowfin tuna, because too hot temperatures can cause tuna to migrate to colder areas in order to survive. The research method used in this study is quantitative descriptive with a spatial-temporal analysis design. The results showed that during the period 2011 to 2015, each season exhibited characteristic dominant direction and typical wind intensity, reflecting the influence of large-scale atmospheric circulation such as the Asian-Australian Monsoon. The Banda Sea has regional circulation resilience that is able to maintain the local upwelling process despite the ENSO Phenomenon. The dynamics of ocean currents, sea surface temperature (SPL), salinity, and chlorophyll-a in the Banda Sea show a close relationship with the distribution of fishing grounds, the southern, southwestern, and eastern coastal areas of the Banda Sea are proven to be consistent zones of fishing grounds when extreme climate change occurs.
