Abstract
Pencemaran pewarna sintetis seperti Rhodamin B dan Eriochrome Black T di lingkungan perairan menjadi permasalahan serius karena sifatnya yang beracun, sulit terurai, dan karsinogenik. Adsorpsi merupakan salah satu metode efektif dalam mengatasi permasalahan ini. Penelitian bertujuan untuk memperoleh zeolit magnetik berbasis abu layang batubara dan terak baja untuk adsorpsi pewarna Rhodamin B dan Eriochrome Black T. Metode sintesis yang digunakan adalah alkali fusi hidrotermal dan pengujian adsorpsi melalui sistem batch. Diperoleh ZMF–9–160 dengan suhu dan waktu optimum 160°C selama 9 jam. ZMF–9–160 dikarakterisasi menggunakan XRD, FTIR, SEM-EDS, Zeta Potential Analyzer dan hasil pengujian adsorpsi menggunakan spektrofotometer UV-Vis. Hasil XRD menunjukkan puncak khas untuk jenis zeolit Cancrinite dan sudah tidak ditemukannya fasa kuarsa dan mullite serta analisis FTIR menunjukkan keberadaan kerangka aluminosilikat. Analisis SEM-EDS menampilkan morfologi batang dengan distribusi unsur O, Si, Al, dan Fe. Permukaan ZMF–9–160 negatif berdasarkan nilai potensial zeta. Uji adsorpsi pewarna RhB dan EBT menunjukkan persentase adsorpsi maksimum pada pH optimum 2. Model isoterm adsorpsi untuk kedua pewarna sesuai untuk model Temkin berdasarkan koefisien determinasi (R2). Regenerasi ZMF–9–160 setelah adsorpsi pewarna telah diteliti dan menunjukkan kemampuan adsorpsi yang baik hingga tiga siklus untuk pewarna EBT sedangkan pewarna RhB hanya pada siklus ke-1. The presence of synthetic dyes such as Rhodamine B and Eriochrome Black T in aquatic environments is a critical environmental issue due to their toxic, persistent, and carcinogenic characteristics. Adsorption is recognized as an effective method for mitigating this problem. The research aims to synthesize magnetic zeolite based on coal fly ash and steel slag for Rhodamine B and Eriochrome Black T adsorption. The synthesis was conducted via hydrothermal alkali fusion, producing the ZMF–9–160 and adsorption testing using the batch system. Obtained ZMF–9–160 at an optimum temperature and time of 160°C for 9 hours. Characterization techniques including X-ray Diffraction (XRD), Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR), zeta potential analyzer, scanning electron microscopy coupled with energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM-EDS), and adsorption testing using Ultraviolet-Visible (UV-Vis) instruments. XRD analysis confirmed the formation of Cancrinite-type zeolite with the disappearance of quartz and mullite minerals. FTIR spectra verified the aluminosilicate framework structure, while SEM-EDS revealed a rod-like morphology comprising O, Si, Al, and Fe elements. The negative surface charge was evidenced by a zeta potential value. Adsorption evaluation showed maximum removal efficiencies for RhB and EBT at an optimal pH of 2. Both dyes conformed well to the Temkin isotherm model evidenced R2 value. Regeneration test revealed that ZMF–9–160 maintained effective adsorption capacity for Eriochrome Black T over three cycles, while the RhB dye is only in the 1st cycle.
