Abstract
Sedangkan proses perancangan menerapkan tujuh aspek utama dari Ecodesign Strategy Wheel yang mencakup low impact materials hingga optimization of end-of-life system. The phenomenon of fast fashion has led to an increase in textile waste, including fabric waste from the garment industry that is difficult to decompose ecologically and has the potential to pollute the environment. This problem requires innovative solutions to reduce the negative impact of waste by repurposing it into new functional and useful products. This study aims to design shoes made from Japan Drill fabric waste using the Ecodesign Strategy Wheel approach to produce designs that are not only functional but also sustainable. The method used in this study is a mixed method approach, combining quantitative methods (analysis of shoe and garment companies) and qualitative methods (observation, interviews, and literature review). The design process applies the seven main aspects of the Ecodesign Strategy Wheel, ranging from low-impact materials to optimization of end-of-life systems. The design outcome is a new concept development: ballet flats made from Japan Drill fabric waste from the garment industry, targeting women aged 18–35 as an environmentally friendly product that promotes sustainability through fabric waste. Thus, this research demonstrates that the application of the Ecodesign Strategy Wheel method can produce environmentally friendly products made from garment waste while supporting sustainable design practices in the local fashion industry.
