Abstract
Sistem monitoring jaringan sangat dibutuhkan dalam menjaga kinerja serta keandalan infrastruktur TI, khususnya pada layanan real-time seperti jaringan ATM. Salah satu perusahaan penyedia layanan jaringan menggunakan PRTG sebagai sistem monitoring jaringan, yang merupakan sistem berbayar dengan biaya lisensi tahunan. Oleh karena itu, Zabbix digunakan sebagai alternatif karena bersifat open-source dan tidak berbayar. Namun, performa Zabbix dalam lingkungan operasional belum diketahui secara pasti. Maka dari itu, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk membandingkan keduanya, dengan berfokus pada kinerja pemantauan jaringan dan biaya operasional. Zabbix dan PRTG merupakan dua sistem monitoring yang telah diimplementasikan pada lingkungan operasional. Zabbix dijalankan dalam lingkungan virtual berbasis Proxmox VE, dan PRTG berjalan di server NMS yang saat ini digunakan di perusahaan. Perbandingan kinerja dilakukan menggunakan parameter CPU, RAM, traffic, dan waktu respon deteksi gangguan. Data diambil dari perangkat router dan switch aktif dalam periode yang sama, serta dilakukan pengujian waktu respon dengan lima sampel modem sebagai simulasi. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa performa Zabbix dan PRTG sangat mirip dalam hal penggunaan sumber daya, dengan perbedaan masih dalam batas toleransi teknis. Namun, Zabbix terbukti lebih cepat dalam mendeteksi perangkat down, sementara PRTG lebih cepat dalam mendeteksi perangkat kembali up. Selain itu, Zabbix memiliki keunggulan dalam aspek biaya karena bersifat open-source. Dengan tidak adanya biaya lisensi, Zabbix dinilai layak dijadikan alternatif atau pendamping PRTG, terutama dalam skenario monitoring jaringan yang membutuhkan efisiensi biaya namun tetap menjaga akurasi dan keandalan sistem. ----- Network monitoring systems are essential for maintaining the performance and reliability of IT infrastructure, especially for real-time services such as ATM networks. One network service provider uses PRTG as its network monitoring system, which is a paid system with an annual license fee. Therefore, Zabbix is used as an alternative because it is open-source and free of charge. However, the performance of Zabbix in an operational environment is not yet fully known. Therefore, this study aims to compare the two systems, focusing on network monitoring performance and operational costs. Zabbix and PRTG are two monitoring systems that have been implemented in an operational environment. Zabbix is run in a virtual environment based on Proxmox VE, and PRTG runs on the NMS server currently used by the company. Performance comparison was conducted using CPU, RAM, traffic, and fault detection response time parameters. Data was collected from active routers and switches during the same period, and response time testing was performed using five modem samples as simulations. The results indicated that Zabbix and PRTG delivered very similar performance in terms of resource usage, with differences remaining within acceptable technical tolerances. However, Zabbix demonstrated faster detection of device downtime, while PRTG was quicker at detecting devices returning online. Furthermore, Zabbix offers a cost advantage due to its open-source nature. With no licensing fees required, Zabbix is considered a viable alternative or complement to PRTG, particularly for network monitoring scenarios that demand cost efficiency while maintaining system accuracy and reliability.
