Abstract
This research aims to explore the use of anthracite coal as an alternative material in jewelry making. Anthracite coal has distinct physical characteristics, such as a deep black color, natural luster, and high density and hardness. The core issue addressed in this study is how the exploration process through the addition of chemical materials such as epoxy resin and Polymorph thermoplastic can enhance the quality of anthracite coal for use in jewelry. The objective of this study is to examine the potential and material characteristics of anthracite coal so it can be applied in jewelry product design. The research was conducted using a design by doing method, involving hands-on experimentation at the Legam Jewelry studio. The results indicate that the proportions of materials, forming techniques, and heating methods significantly affect the final material quality, in terms of both structural strength and visual appeal. The final design consists of a set with circular forms and textures tailored to the preferences of young users. The study concludes that anthracite coal holds significant potential as a jewelry material, offering added value to abundant natural resources. The benefits of this research include the advancement of knowledge on alternative materials, the growth of the creative industry, and community empowerment through innovative jewelry products.
