    Abstract

    Penelitian ini bertujuan mengeksplorasi peran ayah sambung dalam mendukung kesejahteraan psikologis anak usia dini pada keluarga sambung, khususnya saat ayah biologis telah meninggal atau tidak hadir secara fisik. Studi kasus kualitatif digunakan melalui wawancara mendalam dan dokumentasi, dengan analisis tematik Braun & Clarke. Hasil menunjukkan dua pola keterlibatan berbeda berdasarkan durasi dan kesiapan emosional. Partisipan pertama, terlibat selama empat tahun, mencerminkan pengasuhan stabil dan tanggung jawab emosional jangka panjang. Partisipan kedua, dengan keterlibatan 13 bulan dan hanya hadir di akhir pekan, menunjukkan perhatian afektif melalui interaksi hangat namun terbatas. Berbeda dari ayah biologis yang perannya melekat sejak lahir, ayah sambung membangun relasi dari awal di tengah dinamika keluarga baru, menghadapi tantangan identitas dan legitimasi. Dukungan psikologis tercermin melalui perhatian, pengakuan, dan penanaman nilai. Implikasi menekankan pentingnya kesiapan emosional dan konsistensi pengasuhan bersama ibu. Penelitian ini membuka arah bagi kajian lanjutan dengan lebih banyak partisipan serta perspektif anak dan ibu kandung. ----- This study aims to explore the role of stepfathers in supporting the psychological well-being of young children in blended families, particularly when the biological father has passed away or is physically absent. A qualitative case study approach was used through in-depth interviews and documentation, with thematic analysis based on Braun and Clarke. The findings reveal two distinct patterns of involvement shaped by duration and emotional readiness. The first participant, involved for four years, demonstrated stable caregiving and long-term emotional responsibility. The second participant, with 13 months of involvement and weekend-only presence, showed affective attention through warm but limited interactions. Unlike biological fathers whose roles are inherent from birth, stepfathers build relationships from the beginning within the dynamics of a new family, facing challenges of identity and legitimacy. Psychological support was reflected through attentiveness, recognition, and value transmission. The implications highlight the importance of emotional readiness and consistent co-parenting with the biological mother. This study opens pathways for further research involving more participants and including the perspectives of both children and biological mothers.
