Abstract

Tanah lempung merupakan tanah yang mempunyai kuat geser yang rendah sehingga akan timbul masalah jika jenis tanah ini menerima beban yang cukup besar. Hal ini tentunya tidak dikehendaki,maka perlu adanya perbaikan sifat mekanis tanah tersebut. Perbaikan sifat tanah ini dilakukan dengan cara menambahkan abu vulkanik. Perbaikan nilai kuat geser tanah dilakukan dengan penambahan material abu vulkanik sebesar 5%,10% dan 15%, dengan waktu pemeraman 3,7 dan 14 hari. Perubahan dalam sifat mekanik tanah pada campuran dapat dilihat pada percobaan batas konsistensi, uji beratjenis dan triaxial uji unconsolidated-undrained(UU). Hasil pengujian menunjukan bahwa penambahan abu vulkanik sebesar 5%,10% dan 15%, dengan waktu pemeraman 3,7 dan 14 hari dapat memperbaiki sifat mekanik tanah.Penambahan abu vulkanik sebesar 5% menyebabkan meningkatnya kuat geser tanah tersebut, sedangkan pada penambahan abu vulkanik sebesar 10% dan 15% terjadi penurunan kuat geser bila dibandingkan dengan tanah yang tidak dicampur Clay is a soil that has a low shear strength so it will be a problem if the type of this soil receives a big load. This is certainly undesirable, so it need for improvement of the mechanical properties of the soil. Improvement of soil properties is done by add the volcanic ash. The value soil shear strength improvement is carried out with the addition of ash material of 5% .10% and 15%, with a curing time of 3,7 and 14 days. Changes in mechanical properties of soil in the mix can be seen in the experiment of consistency limit test, specify gravity test and triaxial unconsolidated-undrained test (UU). The test results showed that the addition of volcanic ash in 5%, 10% and 15%, with a curing time of 3, 7 and 14 days can improve the mechanical properties of the soil. The addition of the volcanic ash in 5% causing an increase of the shear strength of the soil. Meanwhile the addition of volcanic ash in 10% and 15% show adecline when compared with the shear strength of soil that are not mixed.
