Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan mencari efisiensi proses sintesis biodiesel (metil ester) dari minyak biji ketapang sebagai sumber energi alternatif dari bahan baku terbarukan. Dalam penelitian ini biji ketapang (Terminalia catappa L) diekstraksi menggunakan pelarut n-heksan selama tujuh jam pada suhu 63 dan diperoleh randemen minyak biji ketapang sebesar 56,28% (b/b) dari biji ketapang. Minyak biji ketapang disintesis menjadi metil ester (biodiesel). Biodiesel yang dihasilkan dianalisis menggunakan GCMS (Gas Chromatography Mass Spectroscopy). Dari hasil GCMS diketahui kemurnian metil ester sebesar 84,25 (v/v) dan randemen biodiesel dari total pereaksi sebesar 79,09 . Dari penelitian ini diperoleh bahwa pengurangan waktu ekstraksi tidak mempengaruhi kualitas metil ester. Berdasarkan parameter-parameter yang dihasilkan, biodiesel ini dapat digunakan di negara tropis The objective of this research was to find the efficiency of biodiesel synthesis (methyl ester) of ketapang seed oil as an alternative energy sources from the renewable raw materials. In this research, ketapang seeds (Terminalia catappa L) was extracted by the solvent n-hexane for seven hours at a temperature of 63 ℃ and obtained randemen ketapang seed oil by 56.28% (w/ w) of ketapang seeds. Ketapang seed oil was synthesized into methyl ester (biodiesel). Biodiesel was analyzed using GCMS (Gas Chromatography Mass Spectroscopy). From the results of GCMS was known that the purity of methyl ester was 84.25% (v /v) and the total reagent of biodiesel randemen was 79.09%. This research showed that reduction in the extraction time wasn't affect the quality of the methyl ester. Based on the parameters resulted, these biodiesel can be used in the tropical countries.
