Nida Nabillah, - (2024) ANALISIS MODALITAS DALAM BERITA ACARA PEMERIKSAAN SAKSI KASUS LAKA LANTAS: PENDEKATAN LINGUISTIK FORENSIK. S2 thesis, Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia.
Abstract
ABSTRACT This study examines the types of modality in the text of investigation reports using the Systemic Functional Linguistics (LFS) approach to understand the functions of language in the legal context. This study aims to identify and interpret the use of modality in the investigation report texts with a qualitative descriptive method, using data totalling 693 modality units. The analysis found four dominant types of modality: Dynamical (40,1% occurrence, related to ability or potential), Epistemic (39,5% occurrence, related to certainty or possibility), Deontic (14,1% occurrence, related to obligation or permission), and Intentional (6,2% occurrences, related to intention or desire). Dynamical modality was found to be the most dominant. This suggests an emphasis on the capacity aspect of the parties in the interrogation. The findings provide new insights into language patterns in the context of law enforcement and official communication that show trends. Keywords: Forensic Linguistic; Investigation Report; Modality; Systemic Functional Linguistic; Traffic Accident.
