Abstract

Kata kunci: pesan teks penipuan, digital, interpersonal, eksperiensial, dan tekstual Abstract This research aimed to reveal the linguistic features of fraudulent electronic messages. The data were seven fraud conversations, taken from the criminal unit of the resort police office of Tanjungpinang City and Bintan Regency of Kepulauan Riau province. This research applied qualitative descriptive design by employing the three metafunctions of Systemic Functional Linguistics: interpersonal, experiential, and textual. In this research, interpersonal analysis was used to observe the fraudster’s speech interaction in the conversation, whereas experiential and textual were focused on the two observation points: the time before (the vulnerable point), and after (the critical point) of the money transfer. From interpersonal metafunction, it is found that declarative mood of the lexico-grammatical category, and command of speech function category, were the most selected features by the fraudster. Then, the metaphorical mood was implemented in utterances of declarative, interrogative, and minor clauses, to deliver commands. While, the modality of must, can, and will, were the most commonly practiced by the fraudster. Experiential metafunction on the vulnerable point, found that the mental process was realized to affect the victim’s feelings and mind, in addition, the material process to express promises and to steer the victims to transfer. While, on the critical point, the fraudster frequently applied the material process to show that as if the fraudster was on duty. Next, textual metafunction, on the vulnerable point, found the interpersonal theme, which explains that the fraudster was attempting to attract the victim’s attention, before delivering his real intention, that is money transfer. Then, on the critical point, the most selected theme was textual, it was used to tie meanings between utterances to keep the victim in the meaning construction that he had built.
