Abstract
This study discusses the application of the Rigid Inclusion Full Displacement Column method for soil improvement in a highway construction project. The main objective of this research is to evaluate the effectiveness of the Full Displacement Column method in enhancing soil bearing capacity and reducing settlement, as well as to compare modeling results using the Mohr-Coulomb and Hardening Soil material models. Numerical modeling was performed using Plaxis 2D software, simulating both plane strain and axisymmetric conditions. The results indicate that the Hardening Soil material model is more accurate in predicting soil settlement compared to the Mohr-Coulomb model. The implementation of Full Displacement Columns significantly enhances soil bearing capacity and stability and provides a good response to dynamic loads such as earthquakes. The axisymmetric modeling also yields more realistic results than plane strain in this case. This research highlights the importance of selecting appropriate material models and accurate soil parameters for more precise geotechnical analysis. Recommendations include the use of the Hardening Soil model for similar soil conditions and the necessity of performing back analysis if there are discrepancies with actual field conditions.
