Abstract
Technological advances and social media, such as TikTok, make it easier to access information but also create negative impacts such as sadfishing, which is the behavior of sharing sad stories too much to attract attention. The research is aimed at studying the phenomenon of sadfishing in TikTok and exploring the possible negative effects of such behavior. The research uses a qualitative approach with phenomenological methods and purposive sampling techniques, as well as collecting data through observations, semi-structural interviews, and documentation studies, with data analysis performed through reduction, presentation, and triangulation to ensure validity. The findings show that: 1. Causal factors: seeking social support, the desire to gain recognition, and the need for attention are the main factors causing sadfishing. 2. Characteristics: Sadfishing in TikTok involves the division of personal problems, the visualization of emotions, the use of sad music, tagar, and dramatic language to attract attention. 3. User responses: TikTok users' responses vary, ranging from empathy and support to sharp criticism that can worsen the perpetrator's emotional condition. Sadfishing at TikTok describes how individuals search for emotional attention on social media, which can worsen mental health and indicate the need for social skills as well as critical understanding in the use of social media and educational approaches to address its negative impact.
