Abstract

Multicultural is a condition in which the pluralities of culture, race, ethnic, language, religion, and social status exist in society. Plurality is truly a gift where by maintaining it, life-peace will be achieved. Yet on the other side, the plurality or these differences often cause conflicts. In order to avoid those conflicts, then it is needed to apply multicultural education much earlier or since in elementary school. It is important to create Indonesian people with civic skill so that they are able to live fully with togetherness, tolerance, and high Nationalism. This implementation of multicultural education has been applied at Yos Sudarso Purwakarta Junior High School. Generally, this research aims to obtain a representation about the implementation of multicultural education. The method used in this research is qualitative method by using descriptive study. Data accumulation technique is collected by doing interview, observation, documentation, study of literature, and field research. The results of this research reveal that: 1) The integration of multicultural education in civic skill learning (PKn) at Yos Sudarso Purwakarta Junior High School is done through learning stages; Introduction, Core, Closing and by developing normative effect aims to develop students’ civic skill as if the ability to appreciate, respect, and tolerant. 2) As following below are supportive factors in the implementation of multicultural education for improving civic skill at Yos Sudarso Purwakarta Junior High School: (a)Students’ background varieties either ethnic, race, or religion. (b) Teachers who apply this multicultural education. (c) The principal who supports school implementation program. (d) Sphere of school that supports the implementation of multicultural education. And. (e) School programs and activities that support the implantation of multicultural education such as the activity of religious day. Pramuka extracurricular, the admonition of Kartini’s Day, social devote, student’s welcoming by teachers in front of the class, and outbond. 2) These are several obstacles in the implementation of multicultural education (a) Society’s responces that Yos Sudarso Purwakarta Junior High School is an expensive elite private school. (b) Students are not participate enough in non-academic activity. (c) The lack of ability of teachers in managing class. 3) Some efforts done to overcome the problems of the implementation of multicultural education and to develop students’ civic skill at Yos Sudarso Purwakarta Junior High School, as following below: (a) School’s promotion by participating in a number of competitions and social activities. (b) Interesting and competitive activities planning. (c) Improving teachers’ ability to teach. Multikultural adalah sebuah keadaan dimana dalam masyarakat terdapat pluralitas budaya, ras, etnik, bahasa, agama, dan setatus sosial. Pluralitas merupakan suatu anugerah, dengan memelihara pluralitas akan tercapai kehidupan yang damai. Namun di sisi lain pluralitas atau perbedaan ini sering menimbulkan konflik. Untuk menghindari permasalahan tersebut maka perlu diterapkan pendidikan multikultural sejak dini atau sejak di bangku sekolah, untuk membentuk masyarakat Indonesia memiliki keterampilan kewarganegaraan (civic skill) agar mampu hidup dengan penuh rasa kebersamaan, toleransi, dan tenggang rasa, serta memiliki rasa Nasionalisme yang tinggi. Implementasi pendidikan multilutural ini, telah diterapkan di SMP Yos Sudarso Purwakarta. Secara umum penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memperoleh gambaran tentang implementasi pendidikan multikultural. Pendekatan yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah pendekatan kualitatif dengan menggunakan metode studi deskriftif. Teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui wawancara, observasi, dokumentasi, studi literatur, dan catatan lapangan. Hasil penelitian di lapangan mengungkapkan bahwa: 1) Integrasi pendidikan multikultural dalam pembelajaran pendidikan kewarganegaraan (PKn) di SMP Yos Sudarso Purwakarta dilakukan melalui tahap-tahap pembelajaran; pendahuluan, inti, dan penutup. Serta dengan mengembangkan kebiasaan-kebiasaan positif (normative effect) dengan tujuan untuk ngembangkan civic skill siswa, berupa kemampuan menghargai, menghormati, dan toleransi. 2) Faktor pendukung dalam implementasi pendidikan multikultural untuk mengembangkan keterampilan kewarganegaraan (civis skill) di SMP Yos Sudarso Purwakarta, yaitu; (a) siswa yang memiliki latar belakang yang beragam baik, suku, ras, dan agama. (b) Guru yang menerapkan pendidikan multikultural. (c) kepala sekolah yang mendukung program implemntasi sekolah. (d) Lingkingan sekolah yang mendukung implemntasi pendidikan multikultural, dan. (e) program serta kegiatan sekolah yang memdukung implementasi pendidikan multikultural seperti, kegiatan hari besara keagamaan, ekstrakulikuler Pramuka, peringatan hari Kartini, Bakti Sosial, penyambutan siswa oleh guru di depan kelas, dan Outbond. 3) Kendala-kendala dalam implementasi pendidikan multikultural sebagai berikut: (a) tanggapan dari masyarakat bahwa SMP Yos Sudarso Purwakarta adalah sekolah swasta elite yang mahal (b) kurangnya partisipasi siswa dalam kegiatan non-akademik (c) kurangnya kemampuan guru mengelola kelas. 4) Upaya-upaya yang dilakukan untuk mengatasi hambatan Implementasi pendidikan multikultural untuk mengembangkan civic skill siswa di SMP Yos Sudarso Purwakarta, sebagai berikut: (a) mempromosikan sekolah dengan mengikuti berbagai perlombaan dan kegiatan sosial (b) merancang kegiatan yang menarik dan kompetitif (c) meningkatkan kemampuan mengajar guru.
