Abstract

Matematika memiliki peran yang besar dalam perkembangan ilmu pengetahuan. Contoh peran matematika seperti konsep peluang yang digunakan dalam cabang ilmu biologi, konsep persentase dalam ilmu akuntansi, dan lain-lain. Hal ini mengharuskan siswa yang mempelajari matematika untuk bisa memahami matematika secara baik dan benar agar peran matematika bisa lebih luas lagi. Permasalahannya, kondisi kemampuan pemahaman matematis siswa, terutama di Kota Bandung, masih tergolong rendah. Hal ini berdasarkan hasil tes kemampuan pemahaman matematis yang dilaksanakan di salah satu SMA di Kota Bandung, yaitu terdapat 33 dari 48 siswa yang memiliki skor dibawah 50 dari skor maksimal ideal 100. Salah satu faktor rendahnya kemampuan tersebut adalah ketidakberanian siswa dalam berpendapat. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini menggunakan model pembelajaran Discovery Learning dan Problem Based Learning untuk membantu siswa dalam meningkatkan kemampuan pemahaman matematisnya. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah kuasi eksperimen dengan desain penelitiannya kelas kontrol non ekuivalen. Teknik pengumpulan data melalui pemberian pre-test dan post-test terhadap dua kelas eksperimen. Dari hasil penelitian,dengan melihat rata-rata indeks gain tiap kelas, menunjukkan bahwa peningkatan kemampuan pemahaman matematis siswa yang belajar dengan Discovery Learning memiliki peningkatan kemampuan pemahaman matematis yang tergolong rendah, sedangkan untuk yang belajar dengan Problem Based Learning tergolong sedang. Kata kunci: kemampuan pemahaman matematis, Discovery Learning, Problem Based Learning. Mathematics is really worthwhile on science development. For example, the probability concept is used in biology, percentage concept is used in accountancy, etc. It requires the student to understand mathematics right and good, so that the role of mathematics would expand. However, the student’s capability in understanding mathematics, especially in Bandung City, is low. It grounded on the result of mathematical understanding test which is held in one of many high schools in Bandung City, there are 33 of 48 students were getting scores under 50 at a maximum ideal score is 100. One of many factors which cause a low mathematical understanding is the student’s anxiety in having a notion. Therefore, this research is using the Discovery Learning and Problem Based Learning models to increase the student’s mathematical understanding. The research is held in one of many high schools in Bandung City. The research method is a quasi-experiment with non-equivalent control class as the research design. Data collection by giving a pre-test and a post-test to each experiment classes. The result of the research, by observed the mean of gain index of each class, showed that the students in Discovery Learning class appertain in a low level of raising mathematical understanding, whereas students in Problem Based Learning class in medium level.
