Abstract

In making quality research articles, researchers need to have a good understanding of the structure of move analysis. This structure includes the move-step used to convey arguments and findings in an article effectively. Although many researchers have examined the structure of move analysis, there is still no framework that investigates the move-step structure of the entire sections of highly cited research articles, especially in the field of English Language Teaching (ELT). Therefore, to analyze the entire sections of research articles that can be used as a guide for other research, this research aims to employ a combination of frameworks: Hyland (2000) for the Abstract, Swales (2004) for the Introduction, Cotos (2017) for the Methods, and Moreno and Swales (2018) for Results and Discussion. The corpus chosen for this paper consisted of 30 ELT Research Articles, with the highest citations indexed by Scopus. The results show that some existing moves have conventional status, e.g., 3 moves in the Abstract and Introduction sections, 2 moves in the Method section, and 4 moves for RnD and Conclusion. This research is hoped to produce a framework that can guide novice researchers/authors in writing quality research articles.
