Abstract
Terdapat banyak hasil terjemahan yang tidak tepat di berbagai subtitle film yang dapat mengakibatkan pembendaharaan kata masyarakat yang nantinya bisa berpengaruh di dunia pendidikan. Oleh karena itu, penelitian yang berjudul The Analysis of Translating Procedure on the Subtitle of Sherlock Holmes “Game of Shadows” bertujuan untuk menganalisa prosedur penerjemahan dan mencari tahu kualitas dari terjemahan yang ditemukan didalam subtitle Sherlock Holmes “Game of Shadows”. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif deskriptif untuk menganalisa data berdasarkan kepada teori prosedur penerjemahan yang diajukan oleh Newmark (1988) dan Vinay dan Darbelnet (1997), dan beberapa teori mengenai kualitas terjemahan yang diajukan oleh Barnwell dalam Larson (1984), Tytler (1907), Massoud dalam Abdellah (2005), Nida dan Taber (1964), Newmark (1988), Shafey dalam Abdellah (2005). Hasil dari analisa data menunjukkan bahwa ada delapan tipe prosedur penerjemahan yang ditemukan dalam subtitle Sherlock Holmes “Game of Shadows”, yaitu Transposition (62 item atau 31%), Literal (56 item atau 28%), Reduction and Expansion (reduction 37 item atau 18.5% dan expansion 6 item atau 3%), Paraphrase (21 item atau 10.5%), Couplet (12 item atau 6%), Calque (3 item atau 1.5%), Compensation (2 item atau 1%), and Modulation (1 item atau 0.5%). Seterusnya, analisa data juga menjawab pertanyaan kedua penelitian bahwa kualitas terjemahan didalam subtitle Sherlock Holmes “Game of Shadows” adalah baik berdasarkan pada mayoritas kualitas penerjemahan yang diterima (87% atau 174 item) sedangkan minoritas hasil terjemahan merupakan terjemahan yang tidak diterima (13% atau 26 item). Singkatnya, kualitas terjemahan di dalam subtitle termasuk kedalam kualitas yang bagus, dan untuk menghindari kesalahan yang sama di hasil terjemahan kedepannya, peneliti menyarankan kepada para penerjemah untuk fokus dalam menghasilkan produk terjemahan yang selaras. There are many inaccurate translations scattered in the movie subtitles which contributes to people’s vocabulary and may affect their future education. Thus, present research entitled The Analysis of Translating Procedure on the Subtitle of Sherlock Holmes “Game of Shadows” aims at analyzing the translation procedure and finding out the quality of translation found in the subtitle of Sherlock Holmes “Game of Shadows”. This study used Qualitative Descriptive method to analyze the data based on the theories of translating procedures proposed by Newmark (1988) and Vinay and Darbelnet (1997) and several theories of quality of translation: Barnwell in Larson (1984), Tytler (1907), Massoud in Abdellah (2005), Nida and Taber (1964), Newmark (1988), Shafey in Abdellah (2005). The result of data analysis shows that there are 8 types of translation procedure found in the subtitle of Sherlock Holmes “Game of Shadows”, they are Transposition (62 items or 31%), Literal (56 items or 28%), Reduction and Expansion (37 items or 18.5% for reduction and 6 items or 3% for expansion), Paraphrase (21 items or 10.5%), Couplet (12 items or 6%), Calque (3 items or 1.5%), Compensation (2 items or 1%), and Modulation (1 items or 0.5%). Furthermore, the data analysis also refers to answer to the second research question that the quality of translation in the subtitle of Sherlock Holmes “Game of Shadows” is good based on the majority of translation quality is acceptable (87% or 174 items) while the minority is unacceptable translation (13% or 26 items). To conclude, the quality of translation in the subtitle belongs to good category and to avoid the same mistake in the future attempt at translating subtitles, the researcher suggests the translator to focuses on creating natural translation product.
