Abstract

Soft masculinity merupakan identitas maskulin yang dibawa oleh fenomena Korean Wave. Laki-laki yang diperlihatkan pada setiap produk Korean Wave memiliki tampilan dan perilaku mengarah kepada femininitas. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menjelaskan dan mengkaji secara umum terkait gambaran baru maskulin yang mendekonstruksi maskulinitas melalui analisis makna, faktor, dan dampaknya pada penggemar Korean Wave. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode etnografi virtual yang dilakukan dengan menganalisis konten di media sosial X. Sedangkan untuk teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan wawancara, observasi, dan analisis konten. Pada tahap analisis data peneliti menggunakan teori dekonstruksi untuk menjelaskan bahwa maskulinitas yang muncul karena fenomena Korean Wave adalah presentasi baru dari maskulinitas yang definisinya dapat berubah karena hakikatnya maskulin adalah tampilan gender yang tidak baku. Melalui proses dan pengolahan data diperoleh hasil penelitian yaitu: (1) Soft masculinity membuka makna baru pada budaya maskulinitas laki-laki dengan sifat dan tampilannya yang mirip dengan perempuan seperti menggunakan riasan, perawatan, bersikap lembut, dan bekerja sebagai model atau penari. (2) Faktor dari soft masculinity yang mampu mempengaruhi penerimaan penggemar sebagai dekonstruksi maskulinitas adalah tampilan laki-laki yang dinilai menarik dan memnuhi perasaan afeksi khususnya pada penggemar perempuan melalui sifatnya yang lembut. (3) Adapun dampak yang diterima oleh penggemar ketika mereka mengenal gambaran maskulinitas baru dari produk-produk Korean Wave dalam kehidupan sehari-hari diantaranya meliputi (a) cara pandang terhadap budaya maskulin berubah, (b) bagi perempuan kehadiran soft masculinity mengubah kriteria dalam menilai laki-laki di kehidupan sehari-hari, (c) Sifat konsumtif penggemar yang diunsuri pengidolaan pada laki-laki dari produk Korean Wave pada produk pakaian dan kecantikan. Soft masculinity is a masculine identity brought about by the Korean Wave phenomenon. The men shown in each Korean Wave product have a look and behavior that leads to femininity. This study aims to explain and examine in general the new image of masculinity that deconstructs masculinity through the analysis of its meaning, factors, and impact on Korean Wave fans. This study uses a qualitative approach with a virtual ethnographic method conducted by analyzing content on social media X. As for the data collection technique, it is carried out by interviews, observations, and content analysis. In the data analysis stage, the researcher uses deconstruction theory to explain that the masculinity that arises due to the Korean Wave phenomenon is a new presentation of masculinity whose definition can change because the essence of masculinity is a non-standard view of gender. Through the process and data processing, the results of the research were obtained, namely: (1) Soft masculinity opens a new meaning in the culture of male masculinity with its traits and appearance similar to women such as using makeup, grooming, being gentle, and working as a model or dancer. (2) The factor of soft masculinity that is able to affect the acceptance of fans as a deconstruction of masculinity is the appearance of men who are considered attractive and satisfy feelings of affection, especially in female fans through their soft nature. (3) The impact received by fans when they get to know the new image of masculinity of Korean Wave products in daily life includes (a) the perspective on masculine culture has changed, (b) for women, the presence of soft masculinity has changed the criteria in judging men in daily life, (c) the consumptive nature of fans who are influenced by idolization of men from Korean Wave products in clothing and beauty products.
