Abstract
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan arti dan latar belakang pemberian nama tempat yang ada di Kecamatan Tegalwaru Kabupaten Karawang, mengidentifikasi tempat-tempat yang mengandung cerita rakyat dan cerita sejarah lokal, serta mendeskripsikan cerita rakyat tersebut sebagai alternatif bahan pengajaran. Métode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini yaitu metode deskriptif, dengan teknik wawancara, observasi, dokumentasi dan studi pustaka. Teori yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini yaitu teori toponimi dan folklor. Hasil dari penelitian ini yaitu dari 80 kampung yang ada di Kecamatan Tegalwaru Kabupaten Karawang, terkumpul 54 cerita rakyat yang berkaitan dengan toponimi. Selain itu, dari 54 cerita rakyat bisa diidentifikasi 30 yang mengandung cerita sejarah, baik sejarah jaman kerajaan, jaman penjajahan Belanda, jaman penjajahan Jepang, jaman Agresi Militer Belanda, jaman pemberontakan DI/TII dan jaman pasca Orde Baru. Oleh sebab itu, hasil penelitian ini cocok dijadikan alternatif bahan pengajaran membaca dongeng di SMAN 1 Pangkalan. This study is aimed to describe the meaning and background of the place naming in Kecamatan Tegalwaru Kabupaten Karawang, identify the places that has folklore and local history, and describe the folklore as an alternative teaching material. The study employs a descriptive method with interview, observation, documentation and literature technique. Theories used in this study includes toponymy and folklore theory. The findings revealed that there were 53 folklores related to toponymy from 80 villages. Furthermore, from 53 folklores that have been collected it can be identified 27 stories that contain local history, history which are related to royal era, Dutch colonialism, Japan colonialism, Dutch military aggression, DI/TII rebellion, and New Order era. The origin of the place’s name in Kecamatan Tegalwaru Kabupaten Karawang commonly based on folklore that evolved in community. Hence, the findings of the study could be an appropriate alternative teaching materials of reading local history in SMAN 1 Pangkalan.
